Hog Hill opens

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Hog Hill opens

[quote]OK, OK so everyone would have liked to have been there on the first day but we were asked not to publicise the event as nobody apart from LVYCC - my son's club - has a booking. Redbridge is very twitchy about public liability and wanted to do a low-key event to start as they think things are a bit temporary (but they're better than Hillingdon already!).
Since they saw that we had a great time on what will be a wonderful circuit their nerves should be calmed. You can book the circuit by contacting Alison.Puddle@'redbridge.gov.uk

So far it's just the 800m indy circuit with the alpine turns, but already we can tell the circuit's going to put us back where we were with riders who can learn how to handle bikes and make 'em go up hills.

Watch the video and see how quickly you think you will be able to get around the indy circuit. Note how smooth the bends are and how well cambered too. The lower turn rivals anything there is out there for a true test of riding ability and just like Clarey's was, it's able to tolerate a small mistake and to punish a stupid one.

No, we didn't have any fallers even though there were those who doubted the ability of our tiny ones to make it round. Even little Ned with the six-inch wheels and tiny cranks was whizzing round safely. The girls wanted to keep on going clockwise when we wanted to change and try it anti-clockwise. Then they didn't want to change back again. - It's good whichever way you go.

For the seniors, I doubt you will find a circuit which tests your cornering nerve and your snap on the short climbs better than this. Again, like Eastway you are drawn ever-onwards by the next feature - be it swoopy bend or snappy climb to the top straight.

Come the summer when we get the full 2km it's now obvious that the circuit will be the country's best for its full-on speed and delicacy of touch. In the meantime, this is the most entertaining and exacting 800m of tarmac anywhere.

Off-road trails are being built, with an eye to having most of the accessible land completed by the end of April.

LDA and British Cycling advise us that the Royals will be kept open until September time, with weekends all bookable.

See you at Hog Hill soon. Do make sure your club gets a booking.

Meantime you'll have to enjoy the movie:- http://www.youtube.com/v/6RKMCy30WeM

Focus now comes back onto the Legacy Velopark as this week sees the launch of the ODA's full-time consultation process. I should have more info for all during next weekend.

I will also be making a proper announcement about a major race event which is intended to launch the full circuit at the end of Summer.

- There's lots to look forward to. - Phew! - It's been a while since we could say that!

Kind regards,
