If Paul turns up in shorts we're in for a fast one. It's about a 100 mile round trip so it tends to be the fact you're still doing the same speeds at the end of the ride that catches people out if they haven't done many rides longer than the CR.

Well when I say same speed at the end, that's before it gets nearer home and everyone gets itchy feet and starts chasing buses.

Well I was out today on a training ride and I bumped into Brian Nolan, Looks like he's got one up on you Paul he was on his was to Brighton and back.
Good effort as it was into a bit of a headwind so he should have a nice cruise back.

I'll give it a go then.

The distance isn't a problem. Andy K and I know the route to Brighton well and the surrounding countryside, so if I get dropped I'll be ok.

Just try and hide Paul's shorts seems to be the answer then?

The speed isn't an issue at this time of year, just the distance, so I won't be out to drop anyone (yet)

Sounds like a nice plan, could do with the miles, I spent much time last year working on an ideal route down and back so we can compare notes.

I might be up for this - will be the 3rd brighton trip for me but 1st with company so would be good...

That was good seeing you yesterday George - where we exactly ? a fair way out anyway...
Yes - that headwind was v tough.. I had thought of skipping the Beacon but ended up doing it and it gave a welcome rest from that headwind - only clocked 42 mph on the descent into Brighton... I reached Brighton just before 3, quick bag of chips & a hot chocolate later was soon heading back out on the A23 route.. Followed the A23 on cyclepaths and odd bit of dual carriageway to Crawley.. Got home about 5:30 with plenty of tailwind assistance.. 90 mls & tired legs !
cheers,

Stay on the A23 for that long and you won't need to know the way

New club rule: Anyone who gets their budgie-smugglers on and goes for a swim in the sea gets their lunch paid for by the rest of the group.
