Redhill Sporting 18mile TT

Postby George » Sun Feb 24, 2008 1:28 pm

Dominic and I were in action this morning around the Surrey hills, the weather was bright and warm but the roads were still a little moist especially in the shaded lanes.

Coast hill on the A25 right at the start is 12% and I was in the little ring and standing up, but I had to be careful because when I pushed hard on the pedals the rear disc wheel was sliding all over the place :o I had 150psi in the tubs, maybe tht's alittle too much for this time of the year, I cranked it up down to Abinger Hammer and really took it gingerly at the left turn in the town, but remembered to smile for Belinda's camera!

The long drag up to Holmbury St Mary wasn't as bad as I was expecting, it still seemed harder than the last TT to keep the speed up on the hills.

I caught my minute man here so had 2 more to reel in to get home first, my legs felt strong today, but in the TT position I found they seemed to feel weak and couldn't quite work out how to get the power through

On the run in to Walliswood I went past the two other riders so now I was first man on the road :D, Up to Ockley it was a long straight flatish road but was struggling to get the sped high, but kept the cadebce going to compensate.

Finally on the dual carrigeway at Bear Green and I was flying trying to eek out as much of my reserves that I had left, certainly felt faster along here this morning than last Monday on my training run with John L.

Got back to the HQ had coffee with Dom, who felt very fast today, he obliterated his time from last year by well over 2 minutes with a 45.48 and I managed a 45.02 average speed 24mph, I may have just scraped in the top 10, but our average speeds on this hilly course were slower than the Faygate TT the other week.

Haven't got much to add really. What a lovely morning though. I cycled to the start and was pleased at how warm it was.

George is right I felt like was going really well on the flat and downhill. Took it relatively easy on the ups. Didn't have any sliding but then I only had 120psi in my tubs. I was off no 11. Number 10 was a no show. I caught Number 9 by the top of the first big hill which was within the first mile  Caught a couple more on the way and really did feel like I was hammering. If I am honest if really threw me to start off with and then I sort of just went with it.

As I said to George a lot of it I believe is down to the Wednesday chaingang. So thanks to all of you who keep whipping my backside every week :D

It was nice to be first and second in the HQ for a short time with George. I think that was until Tim Stevens came in with a 43 something. It is a shame we didn't have a third counter for the team award.

Cycled home with sore legs but very happy.

Excellent times guys, blimey Dom 2 minutes quicker! I covered a bit of your course as I went past one of the left handers early on in the SWRC ride. No flying agreeables in sight or thankfully any other TT-ers. Thought it was a bit dodgy using this road at the same time as you guys, clubs have to get events/courses booked in with the CTT well in advance and we shouldn't have been sharing roads.

I'll see you both for the SCCU 21 next month but I won't be able to get you any team prizes I'm afraid, unless no-one else has 3 riders. Worry not though I expect Jon will also be there :D

Well done George, and Dominic too.
Great start to the season.
George, remember Dave Dent is a top TT rider, and Tim Stevens has been up there for years too.
Reckon you will be getting 5s and then 0s before you know it. :D

Good results guys.

[quote="Dominic"]It is a shame we didn't have a third counter for the team award.
Hmm, third counter would have to win the event by over a minute clear of Dave Dent in order to beat the Wightlink team.

[quote="Andrew G"]Worry not though I expect Jon will also be there :D
Yep, I've sent my entry off for that one.

Got some good scalps there lads. It`s a shame that Phil Watkins left the club as he would have enjoyed riding with the rest of The Agreeable Possee. I think he won an elite race a couple of weeks ago.

well done again, keep up the good work.
