Miserable old Barsteward!

Postby Toks » Mon Mar 03, 2008 5:46 pm

I had the pleasure of riding around Regents Park a couple of weeks ago with one of the most misrable old buggers I've ever seen. I say old, he was forty one. We got talking on all things cycling related as you do and then switched to girlfriends/partners and the like. He admitted that since splitting up with his ex five years ago that he'd lost interest in the opposite sex and just did cycling . Yikes!  Is this what happens if you become a single cyclist in your 40's? I split up with my partner at Christmas (mutual descision) and things have been fine psychologically speaking. I've got quite a few female friends but I'm not looking for someone just yet. This guy told me not to bother it ain't worth it. ..I just couldn't believe how negative and miserable he was about life in general considering he has loads of dosh (good job)properties etc . I just told one of my female mates about him and she said "he just needs a spliff and a shag" and he'll be fine again. He says he might come and do some LVRC races with me in the summer. So if I'm not my normal happy self I hope one of you guys will let me know. All together now "single guys clap your hands"

So what you mean to say was, "a man just coming into the prime of life." :)

There you go with your stereotypical ageist attitudes Toks. The elderly hardly have the the monopoly on miserable demeanor - its like saying all left-handed people are awkward - or worse! Being in a hole and knowing when to stop digging comes to mind

Now we all know a lots of old people are not miserable, moany so and so's. Unfortunately they in general, and I include myself as old too, do tend to be moanier than younger folk. I moan more about things now than I did twenty year ago - never mind thats life :D

Clearly an analysis premised the empathetic counsel of youth opinion.

Steady now :D I don't think I'll ever bat for the other side but Jon you got me thinking about an ex boss of mine who after splitting with her husband in her late thirties suddenly announced that she was a Lesbian. Cool we all thought. We got to meet her new partner and that was that. Now this was about five years ago, I saw her recently and she's happily married again to another bloke. :? :D

Its very rare we get a strong wiff anymore. If I had to put the mortgage money on it I'd say its probably once a week now. :D
