Bishop Stortford SPOCO

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Bishop Stortford SPOCO

Probably one for SPOCO King Jon this.

I've entered the Bishop Stortford SPOCO on the E15/27. Looking at a map Nettlestead doesn't look like it'll be too bad to get to, but what is the course like for this one, are there any nasty hills on it or is it more rolling and draggy with the odd lump?

With a bit of luck I'll be able to drive round it before I race, if I can get there early enough on the day, but that may be dictated by my start time.

Thanks.

I've only ridden this course once before and it was 3 or 4 years ago so I don't know it too well. But if memory serves me right there weren't really any major hills, just draggy bits, and some very small narrow lanes (almost farm tracks) which feel pretty scary when you're hacking along them at race speed.

I'll have a look through my old start and result sheets at home and see if they jog my memory any more.

Here's a google map of what I think the course is from the directions:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en ... 11394&z=12

I find the funkiest way to get a feel for a route is to use google maps and then either load one of the google maps path profiler plugins or dump the route out to google earth (or use any of the other online utilities for path profiling).

Where the hell did I get Nettlestead from as an HQ? Must have been reading across lines in the book , oh well it's a bit more of a bugger to get to then  - at least it's a bank holiday weekend so I'll get to enjoy the motorway with all the day trippers.

Thanks for the link Ivor I never think to look for course descriptions on the CTT website as whenever I've looked in the past there were never any filled in except the Holmwood course and I know that one well enough.

Better check the others I've pencilled in now to double check I'll be going where I think I'm going.

Yeah I was surprised the directions were on there. Be nice to have a google map link to click on, I'll have to drop them a line and offer to draw a few.
you still up for sunday around bletchingly? I'm hoping my bike's repaired by then.. although I could always go around on my Airnimal.... er that is unless the doctor rules it out on friday. sigh.

Yep still on for Sunday, I'll put a post in General in case anyone else is interested. Even if they aren't TTing it's a nice loop and there are plenty of good lanes out that way for a ride.

Fingers crossed the quack gives you the all clear.

There are some course details on the TT forum with map my ride links - here.
