Thankfully the weather was kinder than today up in notts on sat,but it was still pretty blustery
With the likes of Jez cox and a few semi or ex pro's i knew i would never be near a podium place, especially after last years performance when i suffered like a dog on the bike section, and got 75th overall and 20th in my age group (35-39)
Anyway,i was determined this year to head back up there to have a better race...which i did
The standard olympic distance for duathlon is:10k run:40k bike:5k run
The bike and run splits were cut short due to last min road works ,so the organisers had to at the 11th hour re-arrange a bike route, but instead of the 40k standard distance i think it was 36k.I managed to av 22mph(non drafting in this race) on a lumpy course with a vicious head wind in area's of the course,so i kept up with the faster boys-must have been the new pointy hat
On the last run section,i still felt strong and broke away from a couple of guys i was battling it out with on the bike, and managed a 17th overall position
The best bit is i got 4th place(out of 6 places) in my age group so got automatic qualification for the world age group duathlon champs in Rimini
Cheers
