Colette wins at Newchapel

Postby JayneToyne » Fri May 21, 2004 12:15 pm

just had to drop a line to say what a good race it was last night, Colette Swift won the handicap, much to the annoyance of a few men there.

she managed to break away from the first group, worked like a trojan with hannah and caught the elite scratch group. She then worked with them to increase her lead on the first group and with encouragement from the elite fellas managed to hang in there, avoided throwing up half way, did her turns, she didnt just sit in and let everyone work around her, and went on to win the race.

its an excellent result for not only Colette and womens racing but its one in the eye for some of the fellas there who were a bit miffed at being beaten by a woman.

Handicaps are not categorised and purely based on your ability or Keith Buttlers fondness towards you, that's why all handicaps don't carry BCF points.

Heck, if I turned up to a handicap in another county i'd probably try and blag a ride in the first group!

well, i was there, as well as marshalling on the motorbike I was standing by the finish for a few laps as well, and I can honestly say hand on heart that Colette worked her legs off staying with the elites. she certainly didnt have an easy race, and she did her turns as i said before in the bunch so no sitting in and being towed along. the only help she got from Bryan and a couple of others was being shouted at to keep going with about 3 laps to go she was ready to pack it.
Steve the cave man thought he had won as he sprinted to the line, i just wish i had seen his face when he found out he came secoind to a woman.

Rob, how exactly does someone else win a race for you? do they turn the pedals and make the descisions? no, i dont think so, there might have been a few tactics talked about before the race but thats all.
