Anyone got a 7-speed cassette 700C road wheel for sale?

Postby Will » Fri May 28, 2004 1:39 pm

The rear wheel on my commuting bike has finally worn out (the rim collapsed).

I need to replace it, and reckon it would be cheapest in order to: 1) buy something second-hand; 2) get the wheel rebuilt with a new rim; 3) buy a new one.

So has anyone got a second-hand one knocking around in decent condition that is for sale?

If so, what is it, and how much would you like for it?

I have a pair of beaten up ambrosio wheels. They used to be decent entry level race wheels but commuting for years and good sense has finished with that. The rear use to hold a 9 speed campag cassette.

If its any good it's yours for £5.
and the front one for another fiver !!

Thanks for the offer Steve.

I'm not much of an expert on road bikes, or Shimano vs Campag, but would a 7-speed Shimano cassette fit on to it snugly?

I would have thought a 7-speed cassette would be narrower than an 8- or 9-speed one?

If it will fit ok, then I'd happily take it off your hands.

I could be wrong but I think the hub length is different betwen 7 and 9 speed, not to mind any differnces between Campag/Shimano.

Yeah, I think you're right Aodan. I've just been reading some info on the Sheldon Brown site, which suggests that the axle and cassette are both different widths.

So thanks very much for the offer Steve, but I'll have to decline.
