Well that was grim weather today, we had viscious crosswinds, evil bullet hail and thick fluffy 45degree snow.
A break got away on the first lap, on the 3rd lap someone had shot off the front, there was a lot of shouting going on on the bunch like " come on are we gonna let them get away, lets work"
Well I sure wasn't so 6 men back I hammered past on my own, got a really decent gap straight away, so got me head down and caught that lone rider ahead.
I tapped him to commence some hard work and off we went, rotating every 20secs or so. We were going well but after nearly a lap away his pulls wern't so strong, so there I was doing most of the work.
We looked round and saw 2 more riders bridging to us so we all latched on together and got a good rhythm of rotation going together, a lap or so of this and we were caught by a group of 5 riders so then there were about 9 of us going round.
The weather was grim it was really snowing hard but luckily I was staying well warm and dry with 5 layers of clothes on
Up the hill on the 6th lap past the line and then SUDDENLY DISASTER OMFG "TIMBER" just 30 meters ahead of us the biggest tree I had ever seen got blown down in the gale force winds, crashing right across the road in-front of me.
I really had to break sharply to avoid it and a couple of spectators ran out the way, my heart was pounding it was a very strange experience, the trunk was 1metre
thick the whole tree must have weighed at lead 4 tons, it totally blocked the road of all traffic, It would have been CERTAIN DEATH if we were 4 seconds up the road.
I picked up my bike threw it over my shoulder and ran off the road and around the tree, I knew the that it was game over for the race cos no vehicles could get by, then I just eased up and was gonna head back to the HQ, but the next group ( main peloton) caught me up in all the confusion, so I rolled around for one more lap for a premature finish.
Then all the service cars and vans did a u turn to get back to the HQ the long way round the lap. Lets hope theres no trees around Dunsfold tomorrow
