last year it was a great ride. there were about 10 addiscombe on a very sunny day all in kit racing down to brighton! passing many, watching others try jump on the train, and racing others up hills!

we went there stopped on the sea front and rode back fast, a total of 116 miles, with a ride time of 4.5 hours!!!!

20th june, any takers?

meet at CCS, time yet to be decided :)

Apart from the 25.8 mph average speed I may well be up for this... I presume you mean doing the ride unofficially. What sort of time would we have to set out? I hear the later you go the worse it is with people on heavy full-sus bikes from Halfords getting off to walk up the slightest of gradients.

sylvian, not sure if we all averaged this as on the way down, brian tidy, paul t and myself towed people, then on the way back brian and paul worked together and rode of, i rode of on my own, and the main buch made their own pace home, so paul and brian were actually quicker overall!!!

i doubt the pace will be as fast this year,, but still, we will be challenging everyone on everyhill then just waiting, on flats, we will if we can form a train, but its one of those things, all roads are closed, you make the most of it!!!

anyway, i should think we'd leave ccs bout 7:30

ride starts at 6, most people will reach cousldon bout 7, and within 20 miles, we can be pretty much at the front of everyone...

last year it seemed fine at this time.

(and dont worry, we always wait for everyone along the route)

I should be up for this - but didn't we leave a bit earlier last year? 6.45am from CSS rings a bell with me. Leave it much after 7 and it's going to get very busy up Turner's Hill.

If anyone is worried about 25.8mph, don't be. It was more like 18mph - quicker than most people on the ride, but actually a bit slower than the 17mph club run usually does!

Maybe Im stirring here but isnt it a bit selfish sneaking on to an organised Charity ride and also wearing club kit when doing it.

Given that A) you havent paid and I guess are not raising money for charity)

B) with so many riders on the road its already very congested (Ive done it 4 times in the past so got an idea how bad it is) so the last thing that is needed is more unofficials.

C) the majority of people doing the ride rarely ride very often and will find it rather disconcerting having a pack of team coloured riders whipping past them at 18mph. (in the past Ive seen way too many accidents and near missed caused by this kind of behaviour).

D) if you want to Race people why not do it in a race...

Just my thoughts (maybe I got out the wrong side of bed this morning) but is that really the way ACC wants to promote itself to the public?

best route?

Postby andycarter » Thu Jun 17, 2004 12:37 pm

I'm doing the ride with my housemates for fun so I won't see any of you I'm sure. Not certain of how we're getting back so I was considering riding home.
Do you know of the best way to get back? (since I assume a lot of the roads will be closed for people coming down).

maybe so dom, but im using it as training, im being offered 52 miles of closed roads..im leaving early to stay out of everyones way, and im riding home, so i wont be taking anyones place on the travel home!!!

maybe i am selfish, but hey..life goes on!(and i have done it officially 3 times if that makes u feel better)
