Ditto what Kasper said.

I'll do my very best to make it, all depends on what the weather looks like when I open my curtains I guess.

Just Ben & I were at CSS on Friday morning so with the wind this was a reasonably tough ride.

Set off from CSS in the direction of the CR but instead of going up Reigate steps we carried on left.

Further down the road we turned left again and we were soon in some nice lanes.

Althought this wasn't massivly hilly route it was reasonably fast for the first 40 miles and we were soon ready for a cup of tea so stopped at Fawlty towers in a village somewhere where there were a couple of local cyclists who pointed us in the right direction for the real hills.

So we set off and after a few miles i was grunting and swearing my way up ide hill - about half way up Ben had a 30 metre gap on me so i accelerated and caught him up. As soon as I did I realised I shouldnt have as I died and struggled my way forward for the remainder.

After that we continued onward toward Knockhalt and decided Polhill was the better option than star hill. I was really beginning to struggle as I have had a painful hip for a few weeks now and on my opposite leg my knee was hurting too - i hurt the medial ligament in this playing football last season and it felt very similar which took about 4 weeks to get better - I hope its just a twinge this time!!

A couple of miles from west wickham I had to stop for a Mars bar and Ben turned off for home.

I then continued to struggle on for the 10 miles home.

Spent the rest of the afternoon in agony with my knee and hip with no sympathy from the missus who had been at work.

All in all a good day and had 70 miles on the clock when I got home.

Sounds a good ride and I gather it was Ian's favourite commandant at Penshurst that you met :) .

These twinges and aches sound a bit worrying, particularly as you've been going so well. If you haven't done anything to cause them that you know of then check your bike position and shoes thoroughly. Have you fitted new cleats? Make sure they are in the right place (generally centre of cleat over axle spindle on pedal when clipped in). Also check they are both straight so that they aren't causing one knee to point in or out when in their natural position in the pedal. Give the bike a once over to check that the saddle hasn't slipped a little bit - it is amazing how little it has to slip before it can start to cause aches and pains.

Hi Andrew

Yes I did fit new cleats and thats when the hip started

I have adjusted them a couple of times but it hasn't remidied it so far.

I think my knee I may have just twisted as this feels much better now and it has occurred a few times before playing football. The hip is a little bit of a bugger though as it doesn't want to stop hurting and means I can't put any pressure on the right leg when turning the pedals.

I will have a look at the seat and things this week.

Cheers andrew

Do you keep cycling round in circles now then?
