700c wheel to borrow?

I'm riding the 3-up nationals on 4th July with Simon and Neil, provided they allow me to use my mtb zaskar I'd like to use it, maybe with some aero bars, and it would be cool to use a 700c rear wheel for a Shimano cassette - I use a Dura Ace 12-23 with a 51 or 54t chainring so gearing shouldn't be a problem, but it would look darn cool and improve the aerodynamics of the bike. Won't be needing a rear brake if I can't get it to work with the wheel.

Can you help?

actually sylvain, I think I've got one that I picked up in a bin once, will check. if so and the rear brake works with it you'll just need a tire and tube!

Won't you have problems with hub width trying to fit a 700c wheel in a MTB frame? Road hubs wheels are normally 130mm, but MTB hubs are 135mm. Or maybe there's enough flex in the frame to make it work.

You're right about the spacing Jon, but couldn't you space out the road hub by 5mm to fit the wider mtb dropouts?

If you were going the other way - i.e. trying to fit an mtb hub into a road frame - then it wouldn't work with sylv's bike cos it's aluminium and so can't be stretched.

You are more than welcome to borrow my
Ksyrium rear wheel. I think it has 12-25. Definetely Shimano.
I hope it fits your bike.
You may need the big cog on those short, sharp hills.
Hope you do better than I did on that course.

Sylv, looks like you won't be needing that wheel after all. The TTT start list is now on the CTT website, and there's no Addiscombe teams on it. They must have had a rush of last minute entries.
