im with paul...

ill give 2 scenarios as to why break leavers and gear levers should be separate-

scenario 1, speeding down box hill at 40 mph, up ahead you see one of the hairpins, you go to slam on the breaks...."woops i just changed gear, and i am now heading into a thorny bush"

scenario 2, your on a serrl road race going up the final climb up to the finish, you hit the 25% section and go to swiftly change down a few gears (unless your george)....."woops i pulled the wrong way, have come to a halt and am now falling sideways into other riders"

Be interesting to hear from Huw when he's tested the SRAM shifters as they have tried to come up with a combo of the two. They sound as though the shifting might be a bit vague but I've never tried them.

You can change both up and down gears easily from the drops with Campag but at the end of the day it's all personal preference.




Oh, and Campagnolo are better obviously .

I read the blurb on the 2009 Dura Ace and I have to say I am quite excited about it. Not the electronic version, but all the other supposed improvements.

Like wise, will be interesting to see what the new shifters are like. I quite like the ones they have at the moment, and my hands aren't exactly massive. I think I will kind of miss the external gear cables, they give you something to grab hold of when in a TT tuck on the tops of your bars. But I guess the Pro's manage it on Campag so I'm sure i'll get used to it.

Sounds like the new mechanical DA will be quite a bit lighter also, which is where it falls down compared to SRAM red and Record. However I suspect the price will climb to match though

I am actually quite excited about electronic gears, if they are as good as they're meant to be. I will certainly be willing to try it out once I have a proper job to pay for it!
