[quote="-Adam-"][quote="Andrew G"]110psi rear and 100psi front.

Interesting, I've always tended to have my rear tyre at the same or slightly less pressure than the front. As I reckon it means a more comfortable ride, and I find if I ever have grip issues its with the rear not the front. So perhaps around 110psi front and 100-105psi for dry, then maybe 100 front and 100 rear for wet.

Would be interested to see/hear what other people run their tyre pressures at....

Clinchers just over 100psi rear just under front, I have latex tubes and fear they might explode over that! don't need to really though at 60kg.

tubs just over/under 110psi

Mtb around 2.5bars depending on tire volume, slightly more at rear than front.

Note how somehow I measure in psi for road tires and bars for mtb :roll:

[quote="Andrew G"]Nope, other than the bump lightening the front and causing it to slide out as per my wild and dubious speculation.

Heh, sorry didn't mean to dismiss your speculation, I think its spot on.... however, and I get to the embarrassing bit now - I had a thorough crash investigation last night and think the mystery is solved.

Firstly checking tyre pressures revealed front at 115, rear at 95! no idea how that happened since I'd just carried out my spoke replacement operation and pumped them up. thought they were at 100,110. Checked the alignment whilst at it and very slight wobble in the rear but nothing dramatic, will have to try re-truing that again.

Next the penny dropped and realised this was the first outing experimenting with my new clamp on rack on and loaded up - and I think it's too high on this bike. no idea why I didn't notice or think of that yesterday. :(

So I guess the tyre pressures were bad, the centre of gravity was moved up, there was a bump in the corner and I took it badly. Pretty predictable outcome really!

So anyway, swapped the tyres over to the Stevlios last night, set the front at 90 and rear at 95. Removed rack. and had a glorious ride in this morning in the sunshine. albeit taking that corner at about 3mph! :)

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Nobody has mentioned the other possibility, a patch of oil or diesel onthe road. Invisible but treacherous.
I remember well the same thing happening to me on the return trip from the Charlwood cafe a couple of years ago when my front wheel just slid away from me and I went down on a roundabout in Redhill. It turned out to be a dead smooth manhole cover and it was wet.
I never even saw it until I went back a week later to try to find out the cause.
PS The damn thing still has not been replaced. :evil:
