I know, but it would make it interesting, how steep can a climb be on the m25?
Someone find a cross section please, there might be a few false flats, but I still cant see it being very interesting. Imagine how its going to look on cycling manager, 4 lanes and a bunch of cyclists with rubbish commentating, and simply long and flat.

It doesnt change the fact it is boring, I want to see the faces of pain.

Er... yes!

Mo, round just after junction 5 heading anti-clockwise there is a fair old drag over the downs, a little more than a false flat. But yes, obviously it would be boring, but I think you missed the point! :P

[quote="marco"]Im pretty certain PVT has done a road race on the M25 years and years ago!

I can confirm that during the construction of the road - there was racing on it for a while which largely entailed riding up a ruddy great drag in a straight line - U-turning at the end and riding back down again

This is no doubt where PVT honed his 12-hour 'head-down without stopping for a toilet break' technique

I've often thought it would be a good idea to have an open category race, 1 lap around the entire M25 if the police would close it for a day - can you imagine?
As many people as wanted to could sign-on. E/1/2s on the front of the grid then 3/4s then literally anybody who wanted to enter behind them in a mass start.
What is it 130 miles or so?

I did race on the M25 in 1985, or at least a section of it - the drop off from the top of Reigate Hill to the Leatherhead Junction - all the Thursday evening handicaps were held there.

We weren't allowed to drive on the carriageway, except for the hard shoulder and park at the junction. The contractors took down a section of the central reservation barrier at each end of the then unopened motorway as it didn't connect to anywhere. and tarmacced it over so could use both sides.

The Handicap World Championships were held there as well and I got 3rd place, just behind Tom McCall. :D

He was the man to beat in the late 70's early 80's, a 1st cat when that was hard to get. The points were the same no matter what race 6,5,4,3,2,1 and that was it. 30 points in each category to move up to the next and no carry over. I think he rode for Britain a few times as well.

Has anyone actually taken a short-cut on the M25 (or any other motorway) by bike at any point? I'm sure if you find yourself in the vicinity of Junction 8 the fastest way back to Croydon is along the motorway to the A23 at Junction 7. Never done it - but have been tempted. It's such a long, inviting downhill drag....

I know of 1 rider who ended up on the A1(M) after failing to take the exit for the turn on one of the F1 courses. It wasn't PVT of course who has a finely honed strategy to make sure that he doesn't make that mistake

Yes, I remembered someone doing it but couldn't remember the team.

I don't recommend it. Haven't you noticed all the bl**dy cameras around there. They would have you captured before you got to Star Lane.!! :(
