SCCU sporting 10 and 25

Somewhat mixed weather for this afternoons 10 at Oakwoodhill. I was an early starter at number 10 and did my warm-up on mostly dry roads. The rain started as the race started and as I waited at the start line the heavens opened. Then just as quickly it stopped again and the roads started to dry out for the later starters. At least the hail waited until after the race to put in an appearance.

Six of us set off on the 10 mile TT yesterday, Paul was one of the early starters and just as I was about to set off Paul had just finished with some nasty looking gravel rash to his right thigh, he had come a cropper and it wasn't even on a corner, I thought to myself well I'd better take it a little more easy on the all the corners then

Straight from the off down on the drops and the roads were very wet, my rear end was sliding all over the place and that was on a straight piece of road in thge aero position, I was thinking if I just stay upright this is gonna be a miracle The disc whith Vittoria CS tub is so slippery, I should have stuck the bora on instead with the decent grippy conti tub, I don't think I'll chance the disc again in a wet event.

Well the first mile was the worst and after that there was more grip on offer, whole parts of the course were actually totally dry, especially up by Ockley. I got into a nice rythm and my heart rate up to 175, the drag up to Ockly was demanding to keep the speed up at 22mph.

Left turn and up a couple of rises and out the saddle with a hard effort, after the rise of each hill/drag I really had to concentrate and dig deep to keep the heart up at a good rate, this was tricky to do and I think needs a little time to master, especially on a 10 where an all out effort must be maintained for an optimum time.

Towards the finish I passed, Terry, Robert and Andrew in going in the opposite direction on the start of their rides, I gave them a shout of encouragement.

Its seemed to go by in a flash, I had passed 3 riders and almost got my 2 minute man by the end, maybe I went a little too cautiously on some of the corners as I was a minute off the pace of some of the top riders, I got a 24.44 which is good but only finished in 9th I think. But at least managed to stay upright and ready to fight the next day.

Sunday drove the team bus down with Paul who wasn't up to riding down after coming off yesterday but was still gonna ride the event. It was a little cold and we got there early after reconnoitering the course, It was raining a little so we went inside for a cuppa the looked out the window and everything turned white. It was beautiful but unfortunately the race was cancelled.

p.s. Funniest thing was when Richard was driving his car off the grass, he accidently splattered our President from head to foot in mud, even he couldn't help himself from bursting out laughing, I ask you some people

Just started my w/up, when a lady competitor, I think from the Finsbury Park club came a right cropper on a bend, I helped as best I could, nothing too serious but badly shocked, put her in a marshals car with a blanket and the heater on. Then made my way to the start.
The roads were getting better but didn`t really have the strength to attack any hills, got what i expected, thought and hoped to go perhaps a minute faster but the conditions were not up for a good time. Pretty good training though.
My next race is at Andover in a fortnight, which has the reputation of being a quick course, please let the weather be good.
