URGENT Croydon Advertiser

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Wed Apr 09, 2008 1:31 pm

The Croydon Advertiser is running a piece on the stoppage of the ACC Road Race and would like some ACC road racing pics ASAP, particular of the ACC riders in the event.

Please email, or call me 01737374673

Thanks

I gave them my version of events and stressed how well organised the race was, marshals, notices etc and that the stoppage of the race was out of our control.

I never mentioned bad riding.

She had spoken to Sgt makepeace (who was in the bunch that were stopped - I expect she got a diatribe from him about the poor performance of CSO's and their driving skills.....

Any further fallout from this event? Any response from Surrey League or BC?

Well clearly. Since all agreeables would have been riding correctly on the left hand side of the road.

There have been a couple of comments to the article as follows:

[quote]Totally agree Ralph. Prehaps the W++++++ were trying to justify their wages the easy way not by fighting crime. Please read my message about MayDay " Hospital" ? for further explanations why I left Croydon

We the public do not even want PCSO's or Specials. We dont want pretend coppers. We want REAL police officers who are free from the restraints and contraints of the human rights act and can crack a few skulls. There is nothing wrong with a bit of police brutalitly. Id like to see more. Police these days are too soft!

Happy bunch down there in sunny Croydon

Croydon's loss, France's gain. They must be delighted to have him

Left the country in disgust at Croydon, but still reads the Croydon Advertiser :?:

[quote="marco"][quote] Six members of Addiscombe Cycling Club were pulled over 53 miles into a gruelling race by PCSOs who objected to their wayward cycling.

Those f*ckers will always try and do you down at the slightest opportunity.

Lots of our riders in the second photo - I would still have given them photos of Paragon riders or someone like that ;-)

And not one of my photos of the actual race either :( .

Not a very helpful way to start the article. It's fairly normal and has everything in it otherwise, but the first sentence will give the impression that it was the Addiscombe riders fault that the race was stopped. Why only mention the Addiscombe riders that were stopped there were other local clubs riders in it and stopped too.

Bah humbug. Wheh that geezers finished kicking ralph in the goolies  ooooffff - we should send him round the Advertiser. Andrew - that's hacks for you mate - why reflect the whole truth when you don't have to. Shame as of late we've been getting a lot of mileage out of the Advertiser = I guess in terms of media relationships, t'was ever thus.

Who's lodged the complaint, Makepeace or the officers?

Looks like semi-literate use of commas by the Croydon rag's hack.

Eats Shoots and Leaves anyone? No commas it refers to a panda; add a comma and it's director's notes for Al Pacino in the restaurant scene in the Godfather.

I think the whole thing is just poorly written.

Initially when I read it I interpreted the piece as a swipe at us; but on reflection and bearing in mind the main body of the article I think he was just trying to set the scene and that the underlying assumption was that the disqualfication of addiscombe riders was wrong in and of itself rather than saying look at those idiots who are, by inference, representing croydon.

As Dombo points out the punctuation is also awful and I would guess that, our august organ , the croydon advertiser is not doing enough to recruit the cream of journalism to it's staff.

Suns out though & its Friday!

Damn right - though this article is the exception as all other recent stuff has been penned by the mighty sword of truth from the ACC newsdesk. We don't make mistokes
