Wheel Building Talk at the Clubroom on Wednesday.

Postby Andrew G » Mon Apr 07, 2008 2:25 pm

Yes folks it is part one of Mr. Baker's wheel building demo at the club room this Wednesday (9th April).

The clubroom is at Christchurch Methodist Hall, 114 Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon CR0 6AD - From the front go down the side entrance to the right and it is in the room at the back.

Clubroom opens at 8:30pm.

Hope to see you there for tea, cake, and enlightenment.

A big thank you to Grahame for last night's talk, and Adam as his "not-so-beautiful-assistant".

A wealth of information and stripping away the "black art" of wheel building so that even a numpty like myself will have a go at swapping rims, hope I don't end up with a pringle.

Indeed, a great talk and Adam did a great job with the "toy" screwdriver he was stuck with.

Completely forgot to ask/talk about your VB app marco... but I was completely shattered... oh and then I fell into a rose bush clambering back into my car!

I'm still trying to put faces to names, I know next time we'll all sit in a circle and stand up one at a time. "Hello My name's Ivor and I'm addicted to cycling" type thing. :)

I've just had a telephone call from Joyce (Elle Presidente) confirming that the hall is booked for "part II - wheel truing" on Wednesday 14th May.

Oh, and Alan's Pilates class is booked in for 30th April.

Yes thanks to Grahame, and of course Joyce for opening up, booking, providing cake etc.

Let's hope I don't turn my wheel into a pringle after a few goes at truing it at home!

Added to the Clubroom Dates post at the top of the forum. Sadly I can't make this, so the leotard will have to stay in the cupboard .

Hats off to you Grahame.

Very open and interactive, I done a course on presenting skills including ice breakers, timing of talks, preparation, and the rest of the crap that goes with having to keep an audience awake  .
Well I hated every bit of it, not your talk, my training!, so I have never done it and told my boss to do it himself if it was that easy lol.

Your demonstration with Poor Adam your screwdriver 'wheelding' assistant was very well done and I for one have learned a hell of a lot about wheels, rims, spokes and cake. I'm now going to put in on my C.V. As I am now an expert.
Wheelology Part 1. I'll defo be there for part deaux de la truing.

Not only will we be all standing up next time to introduce ourselves but we will also be wearing name badges. It was nice to put a few faces to some names, I think I can remember 2, nope, gone already.

Well done Sir and thank you very much.

It was really interesting. I would never have thought to mend a wheel like that. Bike maintenance is something I have a lot to learn about! I hadn't even thought of a spoke breaking on a run so will be buying one of those little keys and throwing it in the saddle bag. I do find myself wondering sometimes why I didn't just stick to needing a simple pair of trainers though
