TT Bike

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

[quote="mrP(Boonen)VT"]Can you get over to the Power section of the forum and stop hijacking this thread

Paul H started the thread and started asking about power, so that's not a hijack.

[quote="richv"]Can't remember what the shipping was I'm afraid. No problems with customs, they ship to the UK regularly and you're unlikely to be charged anything extra.

I've just bought a pair for 80 bucks inc shipping - and I mean ship - not fly. Reckon I'll have 'em by oooooo, 2010

Got mine - trouble is the centre hole is a bit too snug so when I fit everything together the wheel won't freewheel at all. Out with the file methinks

Nice bike Paul. Don't know about the HED spoked wheels although the tri spokes seem well thought of. If they've been well looked after (and fitting ceramic bearings to the rear would suggest they have) then I'd have thought they'd be good wheels. If they are only used for TTs then they probably haven't had too much of a hard life. My bigger concern with 2nd hand carbon deep rims would be if they've been used for road racing as you don't know what abuse / potholes they've been through.

Reads a bit odd that, looking after wheels doesn't make them a good wheelset obviously, what I meant was that HED stuff in general is well thought of so....

Would it be worth getting a PX with these wheels 2nd hand over a new PX with PX 50s. Wouldn't the new bike be only a couple of hundred quid more, yet come with the warranty. You could always get a new one with normal wheels for less dosh and do Rich's wheelcover trick with the rear, then just shop about for a 2nd hand front wheel for the future.

Still cant make my mind up. Thinking about buying one of these (wheels & Frameset £650 + postage + tax). It comes from the same factory as Planet X.

Stunning bike Paul. I looked in to Karbona wheels when I was browsing around as I found some that were cheaper than the Planet-X ones, didn't get them in the end as I got a great deal on 2nd hand unused P-Xs.

As you mention it's the same factory as Planet-X. What I discovered with my browsing that a lot of the more "budget" carbon equipment all comes from the same factory in Taiwan and is made by Gigantex Composite Technologies - Planet-X, Karbona, and a couple of others the names of which escape me at the mo - possibly Dalkiia as their TT frame looks the same. It's all the same/similar stuff just rebadged, although that Karbona frame is different from the P-X one (much closer front wheel clearance and different head tube) it's probably the same as another one rebadged by somone else. The wheels in the picture look like the P-X 82s with different transfers. I read somewhere that Cadel Evans' "Ridley" in the Tour last year was one from the same moulds as the P-X with new stickers on it.

Nice old oval "Eggring" in that pic :) . All to reduce the dead spot, combined with a lovely set of the wonderful PMP L shaped cranks and you should fly  .

Utterly pointless, unless you wanted to add more weight and less strength to your drive train, but a classic of their type.
