British National Points Series #1 Thetford

Postby Sylv » Sun Apr 13, 2008 9:36 pm

To round up the results for the weekend and after George's great result, just a short post to say I came 9th /62 on Saturday in the Masters field (which contained a few ex-Elites, and one current pro .. ). Managed to beat Richard John this time (in a finish sprint!). Should've raced in Experts though, that time would have got me 5th place :)

Well done Sylv. What's the difference between Masters and Experts, are you not one or the other?

Masters is what it says on my BC licence, I know if you want to ride in Elite you have to have earned some UCI points, but for Experts I am not sure, I think you might have to ask BC if you do not have points.

At the top there is Elite, in which will be mostly professionals and semi-pros, sponsored athletes. Then below is Experts (I don't think there are age limits for either category), and it seems the Masters category (30-40 year) is a bit controversial these days, if you look at the results you can see that the total time for the top 10 in Masters is actually 1/2h less than in Experts, and the pro triathlete who won had over 3 minutes lead and has been criticized for riding in Masters (imagine having to race against Steve Bayliss!).

I will do the full report later

Experts is a MTB category for Senior (19-29) riders, (there's Sport, Expert and Elite) apparently equivalent to Cat2.
N.B. All Male and Female Senior age riders, may be further categorised into ‘Ability’ groupings as follows : Sport, Expert and Elite

Whearas, "Master" is for the old folk.
