Hilly Ride 26 April 2008

Postby Marek » Sun Apr 20, 2008 8:08 pm

Next Saturday there is nothing on interest on the road race schedule so wondered if anyone fancied a long hilly ride at a reasonably pace. Not ballistic but not slow, I need to start getting some decent hills into the legs in preparation for the Marmotte. Am happy to do steady on the flats and hard on the hills therefore allowing re-groups.

The route will be something like over to Dorking for Coldharbour and a couple of other nice little hills, then at some point try to head back over towards Leigh and then Rusper then I will work a route which takes us over to Handcross type area then over to Turners Hill and then down to Ardingly then Sharpthorne, Weirwood Reservoir, The Wall, Edenbridge, Westerham, Purley.

Have a feeling that this route may be a bit long, but should be fun. Bring a couple of bottles, some small change for the one or two cafe stops and some spare food for me to pinch off you once I die on the hills.

Leave CSS normal club run time.

Cheers

Might be up for this Marek, what kind of distance are you looking at overall? I need to keep up the hill work as its one area I still feel Im lacking in despite Dels kind words of me 'climbing like a demon' today......though I wont even attempt to follow your wheel up anything even remotely resembling a hill Marek. :)

If its only 80 miles then maybe we wont turn off to Edenbridge and head over to Groombridge and then Penshurst before returning to Edenbridge then Westerham. Lets see how it goes.

Cheers

Oh bugger, Ive just remembered, Ive got to lick the local outdoor swimming pool clean before teaching all the local under 10's to count to a million next saturday so I wont make it Im afraid.

(anythings got to be preferable to getting slaughtered by you guys leaving me dead on the roadside after the 1st 3 miles  )

Marek,

Sounds Good. I'll come along. I've got some hilly sportives coming up and am starting to get scared...

What time are you planning on leaving. I need to avoid getting back too late (i.e beyond 2PM)

Ta Ta...

Sounds like a good ride. I'm sure the estimate of 80miles is a bit light..... Leith Hill and The Wall are quite a long way from each other.

The Norwood Paragon event at Bletchingley that weekend would have lots of nice climbing in it too! Why not give give it a try?

If I was fit, I'd probably tag along (assuming I could get out of bed in time). I did get out this weekend on Sunday for the first time in a good while. My total ride time for 2008 is now 4hrs. In fact, I've done 6hrs on the bike since the middle of November when I stopped for tea and biscuits with George at Paul Hone's house.

Have a good ride. Hope the weather stays dry.

Should be a laugh, I need a week off the racing, the last 3 races have been DNF's for silly reasons, I need a break and a good hilly ride to help me train for the Marmotte is what I fancy next weekend. Adam have fun with the Elites, that is a tough course.

Cheers

Here's a sobering thought: we've only 75 days to go until La Marmotte
