[quote="marco"]Good find
which one is best for me?
I want it to be able to:

have a route ive programmed in google maps or bikely or similar in advance and tell me which way to go

show roads etc like a normal gps incase i get proper lost , and let me put in a postcode destination

show footpaths and bridleways

have some way of attatching it to my arm or wrist even if its a bodge with a velcro strap

does the 305 do all those things? if not which other model comes close?

Marco - good though it is for analysing your ride post the event, the 305 comes nowhere near to your requirements :( doubtless someone will either a) prove me wrong or hopefully b) tell you which if any of their devices fits the bill.

I have one, it is good, but tbh I reckon one should splash the cash on the new versions. They have proper GPS and stuff.

Save your pennies. Buy a few local OS Maps, study them when you have a few spare moments - e.g. in the....ahem.....bathroom. No need for any Sat Nav type technology.

The best and most rewarding winter training rides have to be those where you don't actually know where you are. If the lane looks in interesting take the bike for a spin down it and see where it goes!

They have all come down so much in price but I'd still strongly recommend the Garmin Edge 705 for around £260. You honestly wont ever need to double up on gadgets ever again to keep the weight of your bike down.

The info it gives you during and post run is fantastic, and unlike some tech stuff i've had in the past, it is user friendly and works. I won't bore you with what it does as all the spec is online.

Very happy with it. you could even just stick it in your pocket with no sensors on your bike at all.

Looks great Mark :D How does it do the navigation? Is it easy to programme in and to follow. I am sooooo bad at directions and have to stop to look at the map the whole time which is rubbish in a long run!

This is going to sound really stupid but I havn't really used it for navigation as such. I used it once when I came home from the CR on my own because I had hospital to ge to. I done the usual satnav trate of telling me to do a bloody u-turn and even though It records your route with pin point accuracy, the actual maps in the unit are a bit p1ss poor. The unit is mapped for UK and Europe which is good for it's size, I'm going to look into what I have to do to get stret level mapping for the uk.
When ou get back from a ride and connect it to the pc, it only takes 2 or 3 clicks to display some quality stats and the map on google earth of where you've been.
I want to use the ghost rider now on it. This means I can replay and old run with a shadow (of me) on the unit to try to better it.

To sum up.
The best for collecting stats.
Maps would be better if for UK only.
It is ready to receive a power meter also.
