MTB away days

Could have trips over to Wales, South Downs etc

Wales would be rather good as I know a lot of trail centres already how to get there, secret bits etc

but up to you lot i guess as you've got jobs and the ilk. also guess feasability depends on how many MTBers we actually have in the club

I already have a weekend booked in Brecon for 20th June, I think our B&B is full but you could sort something out for the same weekend?
Do you know any where there to hire decent bikes?

to be honest my idea was to run them for others rather than purely myself!!

I rode the gap at brecon (in the pissing rain) watch your brakes pads just dissolve

I wanted to take my bike so I could "get to know it"! But the hire bikes are probably better than mine and i don't have to worry about maintenance when I break it. Most of my rides usually end with a mile or so on foot due to damaged equipment.

Yeah beics brenin are very good, have a couple of mates who work for them, only problem is its about 2 hours north of brecon

My mistake we are going to Coed-y-Brenin - probably best if I don't drive the mini bus!

in that case beics brenin are going to be your best bet, and seeing as they're actually under the cafe at the trail centre.....

i presume you're riding something like the tawr or the mbr?? you may well have more fun spending a little more on a full sus hire bike as coedy on a hardtail is quite frankly bone shaking!!

id personalyl suggest a specialized stumpjumper as enduros are a little overkill and aren't exactly fun climbing, which there seems to be a suprisding amout of there.

Iv'e just done a 'Go-Ape' high wire adventure day down in Bedgebury Forest Kent.

There were mountain bikes for hire down there with facilities like, jet wash, cafe, picnic areas, cake, walks, toilets, showers etc, you know the sort of thing. I think it was £6 to park though

It looked well set out. I was just wondering if anybody here had ridden it or been down there

I've ridden there in the past but have heard bad things about it recently . Horse riders and ramblers walking against riders on designated one way MTB trails, trails washed out due to wet weather etc. Hopefully these things have been dealt with, I always enjoyed the times I spent there.

The cost of the parking isn't bad when you consider that it's their main source of income. Four people in a car so that's £1.50 each for a day out in great surroundings. If you're particularly cheap there's always the road outside. Although replacement wing mirrors will probably cost more then the £6...
