Vice-captains/rides leaders wanted

Postby Amy » Wed Apr 30, 2008 1:37 pm

We're getting larger and faster as a club so why not become a vice-captain to help co-ordinate and take out groups on the club run? I think you can be co-opted by the committee for now and then have your vice-captainship confirmed at the AGM in November.

And if you've got a ride that you'd like to share with other club members, why not suggest it and take out a group to help alleviate pressure at the cafe and on the well-worn club run route?

AFIAK... Mercury Mc, Ajay, Huw, Amy, Jo, Grahame, Finbar?, John ChZZZZZZZZbitonov,Phil N , Tim, Alex and little ol' moi. There are more i am sure.

I am sure most people will say that i am "fairly vocal" when out on a ride.

The Vice Captains elected at the AGM are:

Alex Protasiuk
Ajay Khandelwal
Amy Robinson
Huw Williams
Tim Coales
Ian Munnery
Grahame Baker
Mark McLaughlin
John Czernobay
Steve Broomfield
Andrew Green
George Brent
Joanna Munnery
John Lovell
Phil Nash
Sean Hogan

Although I have been known to lead the odd ride, I was not proposed as a VC, so any of my rides are informal ones!

The problem is we can't expect the VCs to be out every Saturday and we do have a shortage of people willing to lead the faster groups out at the moment.

As well as more VC or at least people willing to help, I also think we need more informal runs to different places to help ease the burden on the club run but those are my opinion and I'm sticking to them or is that taking cover?

Well a few years ago some of the faster rides stopped off at a cafe in Beares Green before heading to Box hill rather than the usual cafe. One problem is that Charlwood cafe is used to make announcements etc.

Doesn't matter If you listen hard enough you should still hear Monty in Charlwood

I have lead quicker groups over the winter and have no problem doing so. Nor do I have a problem with 'sorting out' a rowdy group from time to time, something which I have had to do on more than one occasion lately. It's not so much a case of having more VCs, but the entire club taking just that little bit more responsibility to ensure that the group that they go out in rides as a group, whether thats steady or kicking each other's asses.

Is it really that hard?

Adam, you're just the type we want. People do tend to just follow the group and rely on other people to sort things out. The more everyone realises that they too are just as responsible for behaviour of the club, the better it will be. I've even put it in my 'Code'. (Hopefully it will be appearing sometime at the top of the forum).

Being a VC isn't particularly onerous - and the more we have the easier it'll be. And the same goes for people who are willing to lead groups - we just need to know who will.

I'm quite happy to lead groups, I just don't think it makes sense to name me a VC when Addiscombe is not my first claim club.

No, I agree with that - just so long as we know who's willing to lead and help out, thanks
