Bec CC RR 11th May 2008

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Bec CC RR 11th May 2008

Anyone planning to ride this race? It used to incorporate the Southern Counties Cycling Union RR Championship too - which was a nice bit of silverware that was not that difficult to win in some years due to the very limited number of riders from SCCU affiliated clubs. I only tried once (a few years ago) and fate got the better of me - I packed whilst comfortably still in contention due to something burning my eyes. The weather was cr*p that year and I don't think any eligible riders actually finished. Assuming the SCCU championship is still incorporated in this event, a top ride by one of the top ACC RRers could see them winning it.

Lingfield itself is a tough but fair circuit - fast in places, dead road-surfaces in others, pretty open to the wind and fairly rolling. Generally it suits the typical UK power-houses. Details below (off London Cycle Sport):
------------------------
The BEC CC RR to be held on Sunday 11th May 2008 on the Lingfield Course is still open for entries.

The race will be held on the challenging Lingfield Circuit in Surrey, and consists of 5 ¼ laps of a 15.2 mile loop running on roads between Edenbridge and East Grinstead. The course is generally rolling but includes the climbs of Dormansland and Holtye.

The event is categorised as National B, open to E/1/2/3 riders, BCF points will run down the 20th rider, and there is an extended prize list. Entry is £13 in advance and £15 on the line.

HQ will be the Edenbridge Centre, Five Elms Road, Edenbridge

The promoter will be taking advance entries up until Sunday 4th May, to ensure a complete field.

Adam - you are right. SCCU event is in late July and is no-longer on its previous home of the Lingfield circuit any more.

Nonetheless I Iould still recommend the top-riders race at Lingfield on 11th May. If last week's event at Bletchingley is anything to go by, there won't be so many elites turning up in any case, which should make for a reasonably open race.

The reason there weren't so many Elites on Sunday is because there were at least 2 other Elite races on. The AW Cycles race and The Rutland-Melton event... most of the big boys were up there... Think the calendar is a little free'er that weekend.

I'm not going to do it as I'm down to race the BUSA Cycling RR the following weekend and would like to go well up there...

Funny that you should mention the Rutland - Melton event - I bumped in to a colleague / friend in the office earlier in the week whom I now see once every few years. He was asking me what I knew about the "big cycling race" that went right past his front door at the weekend!

11th May is also the weekend of the Lincoln - with a field of 176 riders!!!! Riding in that field size would be an experience in itself. That will restrict the Elite turnout at Lingfield - so pace should be sensible(ish)....maybe.
