Postby David Findlay » Fri Jul 16, 2004 6:27 pm

If anyone feels like a longer run tomorrow, myself Luke and Daren are going down to Arundel, hopefully back around 1-1.30pm.

Will leave CSS at 7.00am if you are interested...
Cheers

A great ride for those who are tempted by such an extension to the club run. Distance was around 110miles which we managed to complete with avg of just under 21mph. The roads are rolling and the road surface is excellent once you leave the usual club run route. Ther is only one long steep hill about 5miles before Arundel.

Marek decided to join us which was very decent of him. After two sprints off the front (from the back) within the first 10 miles he quickly tired and returned to an impressive CTC pace. It was clear the 5 day and the Etape had really benefited him. At Rusper he turned back after his domestique duties had been fulfilled. ( I think he lost his nerve as we passed a piece of newspaper which was blowing in the direction of his rear mech)

We took the club run route to Rusper then turned right towards Roffey, Warnham. Eventually joined the dual carriageway and took A24, A264 then A29 all the way to Arundel. Traffic not too bad at that time of day (8.00am).

On the way back, we left Arundel on the A24 but after 3 miles turned right towards Storrington (B2139) and remained on this road all the way to Coolham. (Great rolling road with very good surface).Turned right on the A272 then joined the A24 for a blast up to Horsham joining the club run route around Faygate.....I think you know the rest.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Dave. My early sprints were to test you guys out, when I looked back at Reigate and could not see you guys I decided that the CTC pace would be of benefit to you, especially as you were planning on going to Arundel and would therefore need to pace yourself.

I think the Etape benefited my descending ability which is why none of you could keep up on the way through Merstham. I will give you a few lessons next time we are out for a small fee of course.

I think I have found the reason for the pains in my knees. I think it is something to do with towing you up hills all the time. Not really, my saddle was around 2cm or more too low. Have sorted it out but may take a bit of time for the pains to go. Am hoping that this is the reason, anyway am seeing the bike fit guys next Saturday, following which I am hoping that my form will not have dropped off too much. I am having no problems in the aerobic area its just the legs that are buggered.

Will be back out training in a couple of weeks and then we can start to sort out some racing again.

Cheers

I deserved that! No apologies for sitting on your wheel on the hills. My motive is not to encourage you in an attempt to stop you whipping my ass!
