Florida's got it right. Bravo for Sheriff Judd !!!

[quote]POLK COUNTY FLORIDA SHERIFF GRADY JUDD

Some "dirtbag" in Polk County Florida who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop ended up "executing" the deputy who
stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range.

Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed.

A statewide manhunt ensued.

The low-life was found hiding in a wooded area with his gun. SWAT team officers fired and hit the guy 68 times.

Now here's the kicker:

Naturally, the media asked why they shot him 68 times. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, told the Orlando Sentinel:

"That's all the bullets we had !!"

(Talk about an all-time classic answer !!!)

Edit: FOXNews can't make up its mind who the original perp was. Look at the name of the guy in the photo, and the name of the guy shot 68 times. Maybe they've got the wrong man - I think they should be told.

A similar event closer to home gets quite different treatment:

I think the issue is this - in the UK, whatever you have done you are entitled to a fair legal trial (currently with judge and a jury of your peers). Do we really want the police to stop being the police and start also being the judge, jury (and in these cases, executioner)?

I for one, prefer the idea of due process being followed.

If they have got the wrong man in Florida, there is no chance of a retrial and pardon.

[quote]"I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that's all the ammunition they had," Judd said. "We were not going to take any chance of him shooting back."

I'd have thought that one shot would also have prevented him from firing back, if it was accurate rather than just going a bit Hollywood with a machine gun.

Probably more an issue of it being a Foxnews report and the captions/photos being mixed up a pretty small concern for their reporting.
