Folks

I'm sorry but.......my Mum in Law had a bad stroke last Thursday and she remains very unwell in hospital. As a result things are (even more) topsy turvy chez Snoop. With a heavy heart I have to say that it wouldn't feel right for me to be out and about doing this :( .

That's not to say it shouldn't go ahead - after all I'd set this up in the hope that those that try - will go on to enter for the Southern Counties 10 on May 31st :) .

I really am sorry to have to withdraw - particularly at short notice  .

Really sorry to hear such sad news Snoop and I'll keep everything crossed for you and everyone chez Snoop.

I was helping Snoop with a push off or similar and am happy to lead people out there and give them a heads up, push off etc. You may have to time yourselves unless someone can lend a hand as MrPVT is now elsewhere on Saturday. If not no problem I'll show you sort of where the finish is and if you have your computer on distance then you can switch it off/remove it when it hits 10 miles.

8:30am at CSS

Standard road bikes and no funny wheels will be better, even if you have extra toys, as it is just a simple informal test run. You'd also have to ride them out and back. May I suggest not wearing club kit for this. We aren't doing anything wrong but better not to advertise too much.

Normal stuff you'd take on a CR Mark, tubes, pump drinks etc. I believe the plan is to do this and then ride over to Charlwood and try and hook up with the others for the ride home (cake etc at cafe). If we miss them then we can just ride back as a group anyway.

Mark and others doing this don't be nervous or worried about anything. All you have to do is ride up and down a road as fast as you can. You don't know the course and have never done a TT before so it will not be about setting a time to stun the World :D . It will be very useful to give you an idea of what riding a 10 is like though. You may well never have ridden as hard as that before, or had to push yourself without any chance of a breather by sitting on a wheel after a few miles, so everything you do will help for the future.

In my limited experience from when I did my first 10 a couple of years ago, first time out I didn't know how hard to push, does that drag kick in again when I'm coning back the other way? what comes next I don't know the course? 2nd time out on the same course and got a big improvement just from knowing what came next and that 10 miles really is not very far and you aren't going to blow up and end up in a ditch

Should be good, see you at CSS.

This is the course:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1879004

You start in the side road, left at the RAB, up the little rise and left at that RAB, and then straight on to the turn which is at near as dammit bang on 5 miles. The easy way to know you are approaching it is that you go straight over a RAB and on to a short tree lined bit to the next RAB. It is that RAB that you encircle to head back for home. On the way back there is a very slight drag up to the RAB you need to turn right at, but it is easy to tell which one it is as you can't go straight on at it. Once you've turned right it is straight on over one RAB and there is a layby where the finish is.

As there will only be a few of us I should have enough time to get there before the first finisher and give you an idea of when you can stop chewing your bartape  . I'll send people off in reverse order of speed based on the group you normally ride with, so I expect Locky and Ant will be last or close to.

Cheers. I was thinking of 30 second gaps to get everyone off fairly quickly. Depending on who's there if it's Locky and the Loony and 17s people give it a minute gap before sending the first of them off  .

Atleast I'm Locky and not Loony :)

Looking forward to this now - I'm gonna have a look in the cupboard to see what excuses I should bring with me tomorrow. At the moment I'm thinking poorly ankle ;)

I don't mind timing people. Perhaps everyone can be told a number as they set off and shout it out as they cross the finish?

Sounds like the cunning plan is all coming together. Hope we get some good numbers.

Excuses are order for an AM delivery.

RAB? Raise All Blood-pressure? Right Angle Bend? RAB c Nesbitt? Retire All Bikes?

 Marky Mark

I'm glad you said about the Addiscome colours. I'll wear my cloak of invisibility

Roundabout

Cheers Ivor but I should be fine doing the timing if Ian's pushing off. I notice you aren't doing the Norwood Paragon 25 on sunday so you could ride this :) .

NO DRAFTING ANT :!: Anyway if you catch someone quickly then you'd only slow yourself down by drafting.

Can I just pitch up on the day? Strictly speaking I'm not supposed/allowed to be riding this weekend, but given the early start I could presumably be back in time to despatch all my duties at home. OK if I text you one way or the other tomorrow morning, Andrew?

Of course. No list of names, startsheets or any of that gubbins - this is as informal as you can get. A simple if you want to do it just be at CSS for 8:30 to ride over - That applies to anyone not just you Adrian  .

Adrian - If you can make it and need to be back early then we can send you off first and then you can head for home whenever you need to, rather than hang about or ride to the cafe afterwards.
