Crabwood CC 10

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

I imagine George will knock a little bit off that time  .
Good things from Mr. Lovell too I would think. Fingers crossed John that you can get to start your season after all the event cancellations.

Not just the big chainring but also the legend that is...

We'll all drive down together for this one, only thing is I'll have to bring 2 deckchairs cos were gonna be hanging around in the sun between Johns and our start time.

This course is a fast one with a 2 mile descent we don't have to come back up 8)

wow, what a day - fantastically Agreeable.

Because of the large gap between John and myself/George, George loaded up the picnic table and chairs, parked up and sat out in the sun discussing tactics, largely around "go as fast as you can"

Rode to the start with John and get his warm up in on the hill to the start, which you fortunately don't climb until after the finish. made sure he had his drink, that his preparation was right and took some photos at the start as he glided off on his beautiful Cervelo P2C.

George suggested we rode to the finish, but we weren't allowed to ride the course, so a quick check of the map and I devised a route to loop back round. Lovely country lanes where we never saw a car and no hills!!! Made it to the finish with a couple of minutes to spare. One rider finished, then another in yellow, but not John - 25 minutes ticked by, then he came into view to stop the watch at 25:56 - a massive improvement on his PB of 1:39. He was very pleased to say the least, and rode back with George as I relayed some times back to the HQ for the timekeeper.

More sunbathing. Congratulate John when he returned. Lovely.

When George and I were getting ready, John suggested that George use his Zipp disc - the dimpled one, but George runs S something or other but as I have campag, i used it instead (thanks John).

Made it to the start with 2 minutes to spare, a bit of stretching then blast off. Cruise along - 32mph nice. On to the dual carriageway, slight uphill tug, down to 23, but soon back to 28 all the way to the turn (12:08 for the 5.66 miles). Out of the turn is a steady climb and into a slight headwind, back down to 23, easing out to 25 but average was suffering now. Over the lump to the finish, timekeeper in sight, 21 minutes still showing, but couldn't quite hold on to the finish, crossing the line in 22:15, my second quickest 10 time ever (edit actually third fastest when I checked back, 21:1 and 21:58). WOW, WOW, WOW was I pleased with that. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Then for George - with a previous best time of 24:25 on his form, he was actually the SLOWEST rider on paper and off on a '9 (testers will understand). Could he do a 21, surely he would take a minute out of me.....maybe more, unthinkable - a 20?
His minute man had a best time of 20:21 and when I saw them both at about 2 miles, there wasn't anything in it so George was flying - finishing with 20:51.

What a day - fantastic. Thanks John for persuading me to enter the event and to george for getting us down there etc.

very Agreeable.
