Well you certainly look as though you have a talent for it Ant, as did the others.

Club TTs (club members only and very friendly affairs) on the G10/42 course which is not the one you tried but near Dorking on the A24 and a bit slower course. £3 entry I think to cover CTT levy and you could use times from these on CTT forms as they will be timed by official time keepers. Unfortunately you can't use Saturday's times on forms as they were not officially timed.
Evening 10, 27th May, first rider off at 7.45 pm
Evening 10, 10th June, first rider off at 7.45 pm
Evening 10, 24th June, first rider off at 7.45 pm
Evening 10, 8th July, first rider off at 7.45 pm
Evening 10, 22nd July, first rider off at 7.45 pm
ACC President’s 10, 13th September, first rider off at 10 am

I know Sarah was keen to have a go at the tryout TT but couldn't make it so perhaps we could try another and use the G10/42 course (those of you who did this one could then try a different course). I'm happy to help run it again and will check my TT schedule for a free Saturday as it works quite well for me if I have a race on Sunday as it gives me an easy Saturday leg spin.

Don't worry Mark the 42 course is straight over one RAB, turn at the second and straight back home, I'm sure you'll manage to take the wrong exit at the first RAB though  .

Maybe we should get Mark one of those map holders you see stuck on the front of mopeds by people trying to find their way round London......or maybe someone lend him a tom tom.

Well that sure was fun. First off thanks to Andrew and Ian for mentoring, fatherly advice and timing us. Second thanks to my fellow sufferers Ant, Adrian, Mark and Marky Mark for support and encouragement (are we now to be known as the Time Trial Five). My only worry guys is that after setting such good PB's are we going to struggle to beat them. I do three laps of Richmond Park (about 20 miles) every now and again to monitor my fitness and did under the hour for the first time last week but doing that 10 miler was something else. I definitely fancy some more, seriously thinking about the 31st and the club ones in the evening sound nice and relaxed (if a 10 mile TT can be called such a thing). Only problem is that now do I need to start looking at TT bikes, I can hear the missus - What do you need another bike for ?
Anyone with experience of clip on aero bars are they worth it or shall I just stick to the roadie as is ?
If anyone was tempted to have a go but didn't I can definitely recomend it.

I'd stick with the roadie for now Chris. I rode all last season (my first full TT season) on my standard road bike without any clip-ons.

Personally I think you need 3 things to imrove your times. (I'm sure others would say different or in a different order) -
Legs
Head
Kit

Probably in that order for me. Legs are obvious but getting "in the zone" or "having your head on" for the race so you fully concentrate all the time is the thing I've struggled with most, I occaisionally drift off and let my mind wander which causes the time to do the same.

It's worth doing a few to see how you find them, do you still like it, do you want to carry on doing TTs, how many are you going to do before spending money on kit. It will help but initially you're probably better off getting used to doing TTs and have a few under yuor belt. Mind you nice kit helps pschologically too :D . I expect none of it does any good, we just think it does and have spent all our money on it so try harder  .

Just put my entry in the post for the SCCU 10 so there'll be at least one person you know there :) .

For the SCCU event on 31st, entries will close on 20th May at 6pm, so still plenty of time to fill it up with Agreeables. :D

I'll be there :D .

Legs......check
Head......check
Pain.......check

Kit, errrmmm, let's see now, old alu road bike with 2nd hand bars and plastic wheel covers. 10 speed cassette with a 9 speed mech  . Yeah OK then, check.

I'm starting to see my equipment as a potential advantage. I mean, if I can kick lumps out of my time on my old bike - I wonder how I might go if/when I make the jump to a proper aero beastie...?

Personally now I'm used to them I think bars are probably the single biggest change I'd consider to a road bike. Keeps you tucked. The rest can wait, and wait, and wait.

I can't wait for the SCCU 10 - my first 10 of the season, two weeks away and I'm already totally pumped

Cheers - Snoop

Not only am I entering, but I'm going to smash my PB

Firstly thanks to Andrew & Ian for doing this!!

My TT effort took a light diversion whereby I went straight on instead of turning back on myself – woops.

Ended riding up a hill, down the other side, over some train tracks and into a small village. By the time I realised I’d gone too far I had done an extra mile which meant an additional two by the time I got back on the course – woops.

Including this detour my time for the ride was 32m 08s at an average speed of just 22.3mph

By using my GPS datat I was able to take this extra mileage off to give me a time of 25m 39s. I don’t think this is really representative of what I could do as I was pretty annoyed with myself and didn’t really ever push myself after this.

Indeed this can be shown by the fact that my HR maxed out at 179 & averaged 164. This is just 89% & 81% of my max HR of 201.

Despite this however it was still a good day and I really enjoyed it. I’m not too sure if TT’s are for me but I will give one or two a try to see. I think I will find it difficult to push myself without someone around.

By the time I got home I had covered just under 70 miles at an average of 18.2mph

Thanks for the company everyone and well done for the great times

Locky
