From the organiser:
[quote]The BC National Criterium Series opens up on Saturday, 17 May, with the Hillingdon GP, incorporating the Edgware RC Ian Dyas Memorial Race, at Hillingdon Circuit, West London.
The longest race in the series, the 50 mile event over 54 laps has drawn 74 entries, just short of the record 77 last year despite the clash with the Ras Tour of Ireland which sees Rob Hayles and Malcolm Elliot, the last two winners, missing from the line up. But present will be New Zealander Warwick Spence, Cyclefit-Serotta Bikes, a past winner of the National Criterium Series who know the circuit well having won both on the road circuit and in cyclo cross races there.
Likely favourite, however, will be Tony Gibb, Plowman Craven, who effectively grew up from the start of his racing career on this circuit and still regularly rides in the Tuesday series when not on duty for top level professional races at home or abroad. And the Plowman Craven team have another string to their bow in Simon Gaywood, another past winner of the National Criterium Series, with both receiving support from team mates James Millard and James Jackson. Gibb won the Tuesday event on 6 May in a lone break.
But they will have to look out for the eight man Rapha/Condor/Recycling team, traveling mainly from the north, led by the brothers Adam and Ryan Bonser, while there are six riders from the strong A W Cycles team who provide regular winners at Hillingdon, including junior Chris Legg, a member of the BC Talent Team, and no doubt eager to show his elders up and perhaps grab some of the ?2250 prize list.
The race is being promoted by the long established Edgware RC with several of their past professionals and champions on duty to put back into the sport and remember the late Ian Dyas, who passed away last year. This is with the support of the BC West Thames Promotions organisation which is behind much of the race programme at Hillingdon.
There are support races for all categories of youth and an event for 3/4/W riders for which entries on the day are welcome. Newcomers since last year will find a great improvement in the facilities with state of the art changing rooms, showers and toilets available in the adjacent Goals Soccer Centre as part of that organisations lease with Hillingdon Council.
