Beastway series 2008

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Beastway series 2008

Postby Sylv » Wed May 14, 2008 4:09 pm

Please see below info from Bill.

We will be promoting a round which I believe will be Wednesday 2nd July - Grahame or myself will be confirming shortly and appealing for helpers.

Grahame - I know you won't be racing but helping with setting the course marshalling etc - will you be going each round? With Crystal Shambles I am now thinking of going to Beastway every fortnight, will be riding gears as it's a long way (should be 1.5hours to get there from work!), but only if I can get a lift down to South London as we did last year - thanks.

-------------------------------------

Hi,

Hopefully you will have heard by now that Beastway kicks off again in 2008 on Wednesday May 21st at 7.30pm. I'm attaching a flyer for the series, which should contain all the information you need. The Website - http://www.beastway.com - wasn't live at the time of sending this, but should be up and running in a day or two.

The venue will be the same as last year - Hainault Forest Country Park - we had hoped to get into the new MTB venue at Redbridge Cycling Centre (Hog Hill), but the full MTB track won't be ready until about August or possibly September.

Please note that Beastway will have just 6 events this year, and these will take place on Alternate Wednesdays. There are a couple of reasons for this:
1. The circuit has had to be cut slightly from last year's, due to other pressures on park usage.
2. We're a little down on personnel too, so volunteers will be very welcome!
3. We felt that it would be a fair bit more difficult to put this year's series on - but rather than call off the series for this year we'd keep you all ticking over with fewer events, but then hopefully come back to full strength next year at the new venue.

Early signs are that the MTB circuit across the road at Hog Hill will be really exciting, and definitely worth waiting for! However, as the trails are not yet fully laid, and surface materials need to settle and bed in a bit, you are asked NOT to take any sneaky peeks at the new place just yet.

In case you can't access the attachments, the dates for this year's series are: May 21st, June 4th, June 18th, July 2nd, July 16th and the Team Race and Prizegiving on July 30th. Your 4 best results from the 5 counting rounds contribute to the series scores.

If you would like to volunteer for helping set out the circuit (Free Race) or anything else, please email back or phone me on 07930 397245.

Happy Racing,
Bill Wright

I will be going each week except the 2nd July (when I will be in Colorado)

I intend to get there early to lead the coursebuilding efforts if anybody wants to join me for that.

I will be in the car, and will have limited space available to provide lifts back accross to Sahf Lahnden (innit?)

If our recent record is anything to go by - don't worry, something will come up to stop it going ahead

Might be interested in this Wed eve - how easy is it to get to from Croydon by car? Is the M25/M11 best way to get there?

Only ever done 1 MTB race and it was 2 laps around a 4.5mile circuit thro' the most gloopy clayey sticky mud I have ever seen at Deers Leap about a month ago. Hope Essex has superior dirt.

google says: route

tricky - it's quite a long way if you go out to the M25... but then again cutting across isn't going to be fun either. :?

The venue is here and I tend to get there by going through the Blackwall Tunnel, then following the A12 out to the A1112 then following the signs for Hainault Forest Country Park. I suppose that if you prefer to use the M25, then the way is to go through the Dartford Tunnel, then off at J29, follow the A127 until it joins the A12, then follow the A12 and turn right onto the A1112 (again following the signs for Hainault Forest Country Park).

A reminder - anybody who turns up at about 3pm and helps to mark out the course gets to race/ride/bimble round* free.

I am going to help Grahame build the course.
Leaving Kenley in a big van at 2pm if anyone needs a lift.

I am not racing so can help out.
