Nick........Update.....Full story of how it happened.

Postby Nick » Thu May 29, 2008 9:17 pm

Sorry for not keeping in touch guys and gals but couldn't bear thinking of you cycling am me not.

Just to let all you Guys know I am still about and now have had cast off for 8 weeks.

I could only bend my leg 20 degress when the cast came off, after 8 weeks of nusring from some wonderful physio called Cathy I now have over 110 degress and I am to test the bike tomorrow. I have lost 1/3 of my leg muscle but gained about 2 stone...............else where.

I do have a very large BATTLE scar on my knee. A mans measurement would be about 9 inches but Maxine said it is about 6 inches.

Phil Nash please call me about membership. If need be I will drop money on saturday by car as I know it still has not come from my account.

Glad you're on the mend. It sounded a horrible accident and you have my sympathy with all the physio work you've got. Very boring but can be eased it you have a nice physio  .

Good luck with the test ride.

This is how it happened in my mind.

Whilst I was playing rugby a very large man of about 18 stone full of muscle tackled me and managed to rip all my Quads, Tendons and ligaments from my knee and I played on till the end.

This is what really happened................

One Sunday whilst training my sons rugby team my rugby boots dug in and I twisted my ankle not to serious.......I did carry on the rest of the session and went home for some sympathy which I got. Unknown to me I had ruptured both cruciate ligaments, Fibular colateral and popliteus tendon. The fibular ligament was the defining moment the following Friday night when it snapped whilst I was giving some shapes on the dance floor. At that moment the knee gave way and bent in a rather funny way, to be honest when I stood up I could put a finger behind my knee cap and therefore assumed that I had dislocated it, with this in mind and a few Barcardi's we decided to relocte said knee cap. We thought we had managed it 3 times but it kept popping out and thats when the pain set in. Taken to hospital waited 2 days for operation whilst there my notes said I was due for a Prenancy scan and a virginal scrap.......but thats another matter.....(Wrong notes should have been with Mrs Smith in bed next door) but it made me laugh. Sent home after Monday evening to begin the long road to recovery.

Got on Bike Friday rode 1 MILE. HAPPY DAY

Got on bike this morning rode 8 very flat miles. Very happy day.

Turbo out now, to build up those thunder thighs I used to have and lose some weight.

Hope your road to recovery goes well Nick!

It's hard being off the bike when everyone else is riding, just keep it nice and steady on the turbo and make sure you've got a big fan to keep you cool.

Were all missing you down at Regalino's every Saturday. Good luck with the strengthening of the leg, and keep off the chocolate
