BOAT  :!: I echo Ivor's "What happened?" Did you fall in a river or something?

Bad luck and hope it all (there seems quite a lot!) heals up quickly and see you back on a bike soon. See you on Wednesday, any chance of a sort of reenactment?

[quote="Ivor"]What happened! :shock:

Bit of family off roading with the the other half, kids and friends, nice and muddy for the first 4 or 5 miles. Then we had to do a section of road.

Going down hill too fast, slight bend to the right in the road. drifted out to the left onto wet road and mud, the bike must of slid out to the left so I done a full body and face slam into the black suff.

By the volume of the bang as I hit the road, the helmet did save my life.

Friends went into the only house down that lane who seemed to have a fist aid kit ready and waiting, a bit of blue peter style repairs to the chin and right knee.

Got back on bike to go to the rescue boat which was 2 miles away, I gently free wheeled down the rest of the slope (that bit was ok), as soon as I went to pedal the rear mech stuffed itself into a handfull of spokes and preceeded to throw me face down onto a broken wrist :( my left foot was stuck twisted behind me with the bike still attached.

By now i'm in a tad more pain than the first crash. I was told by family to stop clowning around and stay off the black stuff   Had to walk the rest of the way to stop me bouncing on the hard stuff.

Then drove to hospital to get laughed at and add more pain, i think it was the Borat suit that done it.

Anybody got and GOOD advice on Road-Rash after care.

Wine and Stalla coctails?

You can quiz nurse Williams at the Half n' Half on Wednesday, just get to him early or you never know what suggestions he might come up with  .

Oh and the pads mentioned in Wal's post are great, just stick on over the top and they seem to magically heal it up. Don't know where you get them I'm afraid the minor accident unit in New Addington put some on a scuff I had last year.

Jeez MM

If you're gonna crash - do it proper - better still crash once, re-mount and crash again on the already broken limbs, that'll finish the job. You seem to have done it proper!

Amongst other things, your skin is a defensive barrier against infection so Road Rash can present a large, exposed area through which you can easily become infected.
So what ever you do keep it covered. Clean the area thoroughly and remove any dirt and debris wih warm water and a clean gauze to gently scrub the area. Do not scrub vigorously, its painful and can cause more damage. If you haven't got any 'second skin' type products available, cover liberally with a mild non-toxic cream, wrap loosely (tightly will hurt and delay repair) in a cloth dressing and secure either side away from the damaged area. repeat EVERY DAY changing dressing!!! Cos it'll get 'orrible under there. It'll look bad but shouldn't get infected unless you feel severe itching/burning around the area and feel nauseous.

Really bad is if you start getting muscle spasms round the area - that's tetanus and is very dangerous so if you haven't had a jab in the last 10 years and its a really BAD case of road rash - its outpatients for you. DON'T take risks by assuming its not a problem - make it the problem of someone who IS qualified to deal with it

You're looking at about 7 days depending on the depth of the lacerations - possibly longer if you go over on it on wednesday after a few half n halfs.

Good luck for speedy recovery :D

Blimey Mark, you sure don't do things by half do you.
Keep that damaged chin up mate, and stay your usual cheery self while you mend.
John.
