[quote="Marky Mark"]The product is called 'Mepilex', not sure if you can buy them as the hospital put them on me during moaning at how expensive they are. The phrase 'Am I bovered' come to mind.
cool. yup they're hydrophilic dressings. Actually slighly cheaper than the hydrocolloid ones so they shouldn't be complaining
.
The difference between the two is the hydrocolloid one doesn't dissolve, I guess the mepilex ones rely on the foam backing absorbing the dissolved material.
The stated 5 days is a bit optimistic to keep the dressings on but you'll have to be the judge of that, basically the more the wound exudes the more frequently the dressing will fill up with liquid and need replacing.
There are several thicknesses of hydrocolloid pad for example for different amounts of, er, exusion(?)
I found that I needed to change the pads daily for the first few days, then could keep them on for for 2-3 days after that. probably about 2 weeks for the wound to heal completely.
