Well I wont be joining you all now, Im off up to Staffs to see my parents for a long weekend of dossing on their boat while getting in a bit of fishing and hopefully some cycling around and about the sunny lanes of Staffs, Shropshire and Cheshire and up the killer mile to Mow Cop, knee permitting that is.

Hope you all have a really hard day and suffer on those climbs. :D

Enjoy one and all.

Maybe a couple more spaces free depending on who's fit and well to ride on Saturday, or if anyone just decides they don't fancy it. I'll try and get us away asap as first group so please try to be at CSS so we can be on our way by 9:15 latest.

Weather: I'll just be keeping my fingers crossed. If it is chucking it down then I'll have to call it off. If it is only light rain or showery then I'll still be doing it, but may have to drop a hill or two depending on the road conditions - Chalpit instantly springs to mind as the descent to it wouldn't be overly safe if it's too wet.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

I won't be in London this weekend, so will have to enjoy those hills another time.

Have a good ride !

Oh, and beware that some of the lanes around the Beddlestead area have recently been "resurfaced" and have a fair amount of loose gravel. You may have to save abit for those tricky climbs that you'll have to do in the saddle just to keep traction - as I found on Hessiers Hill and Yorks Hill. My quads are still burning !

Thanks for that, they've been "resurfacing", or to be more accurate chucking gravel all over the road, in a number of places in Surrey lately  . I always warn people about the Beddlestead-Hessiers bit as it often has a bit of gravel on the bend pulled up from the roadside. I find it's part of what make Hessiers difficult is that you can't carry any speed in to it due to the narrow bend making you have to ease up.

Last time they were doing something in that area I'd climbed halfway up to meet some kind of road laying vehicle that filled the entire road. I had to go back down to the bottom and wait before doing it again from a standing start :( .

yeah noticed that this week too.
they have thoughtfully "gravelled" the corners up towards biggin hill. :(
just the corners too. was pretty nasty going when the road was wet on monday.

not sure what I'm doing this weekend yet.
