Barcombe 3rds (June 8th)

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Barcombe 3rds (June 8th)

...A quick glance back before powering around a couple of corners and the bunch were completely out of sight. Mmmm... now what? I kept the pressure on for another fifteen minutes and when I next looked back I saw a Bayeaux Landscapes rider bridging across. I kept things steadish and eventually he was on so I raised the tempo once again while he took a breather on my wheel...Read more below; only if you want don't force yourself

Hard luck Toks, I would have liked to have ridden that one but was required elsewhere. It is an excellent course for a breakaway as you can quite quickly be out of sight of the bunch if you work hard. Jason from Mossies rode away last year in the first race and won which was impressive. Paul R and I started a breakaway later in the year and managed to pick up some places which was cool.

Good to see you are mixing it up in the proper road races, 2nd week of July and I will be back to it. See you soon and keep attacking, one of these days you'll stay away.

Cheers

Cheers Dude it feels kinda good to know in approximately 2hrs 15mins of racing you can spend more than 90minutes of it in a breakaway. Its a shame, if Josh was a bit stonger or we had a third man I would've least made the podium. In fact even when caught I rode the last lap in the top 5 and I was silly really cause I should've sat in and sprinted at the end rather than attacking again.

Nice one Toks, that was a great write up, you had me on the edge of my seat for a while.

Didn't you tell this guy to get down on his hoods? Or is that not the polite thing to do when you are losing time in a breakaway and getting caught by the bunch....

You know what its really funny coz in 90mins+ of riding whilst thinking 'bloody hell mate get on the drops, I also hoped that he didn't blow up  They (Bayeux Landscapes peeps)kept handing him drink bottles each lap and he hardly ate. Unlike me he had pretty muscular legs so I couldn't really decide if he was soft pedaling and saving himself for a sprint or genuinely on the limit. But Chapeau, he was really happy at the end of the race and even thanked me :o

I think it is a bit off, some people are just more comfortable riding on the hoods than riding on the drops. Riding on the drops for a 2 hours race can be quite uncomfortable, although if I was in a break I would probably be down on the drops when I was on the front, then up for the drafting bit. Mind you the lucky peeps that sit behind me can stand up and stretch and have a sandwich, cup of tea and a natter as I make such a big hole in the air.

Cheers

I've noticed that hole in the air. I think i crossed my legs and leant back to have a bit of a relax, last time I was behind you!

Perhaps that's where I'm going wrong :D

There was a guy we used to go out cycling with at Redhill, he was 6 foot 5 like you Marek, but he was 16 stone. He made a really big dent in the wind. But I stopped drafting him after he came off round a gravelly bend, and walked away looking like someone had mistaken him for cheese and had been grating him

I hope Jon does not log on to this forum, Marek, or you are in BIG trouble next time you see him.

Sounds like you had a fun race, Toks. Trying to emulate John H-A from a few weeks back????? Better luck next time.....
