It's been commented on elsewhere, apparantly the "helmet" wasn't finished in time so not the full effect - think if that was the case I'd have stuck with a normal one but hey, ho. It was also mentioned that the idea (as with the toblerone socks) is along the lines of speed downhill skiers. Can't say I'm convinced but silly inflatable hat or not he still went faster than I'm ever likely to :( .

How about this, used by New Zealand's Steve Gurney in the 1990 Speight's Coast to Coast, an annual run/kayak/bike race across NZ's South Island which is probably one of the toughest multisport events in the southern hemisphere. Unsurprisingly they banned it in time for the following year's event.

Incidentally, Steve set a new record for the cycle leg on his way to winning the event. I guess he didn't encounter too many crosswinds!
