Recovery time depends a bit on where the fracture is, if there are any other injuries and , i think, the stability of the pelvis. Rarely operated on unless the fracture is displaced. I'm sure he'll be told all the details, i reckon 6weeks upwards.

I went to see Dave last night in hospital he was quite cheerful, pain under control most of the time and hoping that his pelvis will be mended enough to be mobile in about 6 weeks. He's not sure about when he can get back on his lovely new bike but hopefully it won't be too long.

The hospital released me yesterday afternoon complete with crutches and a special contraption for the loo. Apparently the treatment for my condition is called "conservative" ie they do nothing. Still I suppose it could be worse, I'd be realy worried if they'd prescribed "labour"!

I see you are all off to Brighton on Saturday. I shall miss that: I really enjoyed the run last year. And this week I was supposed to be walking in the Lake District. Oh well, c'est la vie. I shall just have to look forward to later in the summer when I should be able to start riding the club runs again.

Thanks Alan. I'm not up to speed and I haven't got my bike back yet but enjoyed the run to Brighton enough to ride back home rather than get the train as I had planned.

On Monday I climbed the Tourmalet so I suppose I must be making some kind of progress.

Ahh, the Tourmalet! Let me know what it looks like. Two hours climbing it in drizzle and low cloud and I still have no idea. La Mongie was pretty though.

A quick update:

After a couple of club runs, a round trip to Brighton and a weekend in the Pyrenees I guess I'm now almost fully recovered.

The police originally told me that they were not likely to prosecute the driver that hit me but sent me a form to fill in. There was a section asking if I thought the driver should be prosecuted and to give reasons why. People I'd spoken to thought he should be prosecuted but I wasn't sure. After all, we all have lapses of concentration at times. In the end I said 'yes' and I've now received a letter from the police telling me that the CPS have recommended that he should be charged with 'Driving without due care and attention'.

I have to totally agree with Sean. The one thing you will never know is, has he done it before and got away with it.

You should not feel guilty for telling the truth.

It's not a nice situation to be in granted, but don't beat yourself up over it, Let the CPS do their thing.

Dave, don't give it a moment - I pass that spot every week and it would have to have been more than a momentary lapse to have missed seeing you. He was approaching a moderatly busy road from a quiet one - there is no problem with visibility, it was a bright dry morning and you were in full acc colours unlikely to be doing more than 15 mph. I understand your sympathies but yes, in all probabilty he was nothing less than careless, and some penalty sends the message out that one needs to maintain attention for all road users.

If it had happened to me, (and it has in the past ), I would be highly pi**ed off if he wasn't prosecuted. I know that junction well and it HAS to be careless to have hit you. No excuse. Let's hope the CPS don't bottle it.

I've just received a letter from the "Criminal Justice System".

The guy who knocked me off my bike pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and was sentenced to 5 penalty points on his licence and fined £265 plus £43 costs.
