Small world

It's getting crowded on the roads up and down to London.... cyclists everywhere. :)

As I was pootering along near home last night drifting away in one of my M.P. daydreaming moments, a chap on a Bianchi pulled along side for a chat. We got the pace back up to something sensible and nattered away.
Chap called Austin, rides with the Old Ports, used to be in ACC about 20 years ago apparently.
Says hello to mrPVT, let you know he's doing the etape this year and hasn't thrown the towel in yet! :)
Asked if I knew (the legendary) Michelle and Keith. :P

Was a really nice change having a bit of a chat to someone rather than the normal solo run. Certainly a lot more agreeable than the miserable bunch of London Dynamo riders who crowded around me at a junction at night a few weeks back, and continued to have their conversation to each other through me without so much as a single hello. They got a double strength Paddington stare.

They're weird, aren't they? I see them everywhere, whether commuting to London Bridge or Richmond, but have never once had so much as a flicker of contemptuous acknowledgement out of them. I was starting to think it was just me

Why should they acknowledge you two, they often don't acknowledge each other  .

I can vouch for that.. Dynamo are my first claim club, although i hardly ever ride with them these days.. It's a good club, but one of the problems with so many members (450+) is that you rarely see the same people out so you don't get to build up the same rapport. Also, with so many members it's inevitable that there are a few idiots who give the rest a bad name. In my experience most of the members are very friendly and helpful and a great laugh, just like ACC :)

Just writing down my experience. I'm sure there are lots of fluffly friendly dynamos about.
I was just reminded of the incident after my pleasant nee agreeable ride last night.

Austin is from the dim and distant past who along with Chas and Rory made an awesome road racing team.

Remember Marco???

He was out at the ACC road race, but not been seen since. Good to know he's still out there.

I know a few LD riders who are very friendly and even let me sit on their wheel into a headwind the other day (nice people) but I think the whole setup lends itself to a lack of communication and they don't get the "old school" club ethos....but at least they're riding bikes and with a bit of education, who knows :?:
