Hi All

Im a new bloke here, saw you all down in Brighton today and thought hey thats near me! I am quite new to roadie ing and am currently training for a LEJOG run next month, we are not overdoing things and doing it over 14 days staying at hostels en route. I am mainly into mountain biking but last year bought a singlespeed Langster to train on and then this year purchased a 2006 Bianchi 1885 carbon Ultegra for this ride. I don't think I will have problems on this 14 day trip and my other team members consist of a runner/triathlete and someone that until last month had not been on a bike since age 13 (Now 33). We have been doing our own training and riding together whenever we can (Shifts allowing).

Thought I would join up as a) I might be able to pick up some handy tips from you experienced roadies and b) would like to ride with a club when im back from Scotland.

I hope that this is the right bit of the forum to post stuff like this otherwise please tell me off (My bad).

Lee

Hello New Bloke,

How did you manage to spot us in Brighton ? Anyhow, welcome to the Agreeables 8)

" I hope that this is the right bit of the forum to post stuff like this otherwise please tell me off "

No, there's nothing wrong with your post on this forum, and I particularly liked the bit about " I am mainly into mountain biking ", although you probably need to be told off for admitting that you've recently gone over to the dark side

Anyway, get yourself and the Bianchi down to Coulsdon South train station on saturday at 9am and join the Club Run to Charlwood :D

Hope to see you soon 8)

Is that this Saturday coming? If so thats a shame Im working :( Was the "How did you spot us?" a Wahh? Stands out quite a bit a group of blokes on decent bikes in yellow with Addiscombe on the back lol

I will indeed come along to a ride but will prob be after my Lejog now. There are some pics on our bike blog on my website although I must admit we have not been keeping it up to date and will try a bit harder over our ride, I hope :?

Hi,
I was planning to do LEGJOG this year, but couldn't fit it in. How are you managing with Hostels as I couldn't find many en=route, and B&B's were quoting ridiculous amounts for single rooms?

Hiya Guru p

We have booked hostels all the way except Loch Ness which is full due to some event up there at the time, Our route I think is the hostel route and is 1040 miles ish. if you look at my site on the bike ride page it tells you pretty much where we are going from and to each day and that is indeed where the hostels are. Hope that helps http://www.macmillanbikeandball.co.uk :D

A question? I have never ridden as a group so am a bit worried about coming along and stuffing things up (Causing a pile up etc) is there a real beginner day type thing that runs to get into the swing? so to speak?

Hi New Bloke. As someone who's also mainly into mountain biking I can say it's a great club to join for road riding, which can otherwise be a little dull. Riding in a bunch is easily picked up and a great way to meet other memebrs.

Hello, if you read our code of conduct (which all prospective club riders should read (and those members who haven't done so already)) at the top of the general forum, you will see that we advise new riders to begin by riding with the slower groups (17mph average and below) in order to learn the club etiquette of riding in pairs and rotating every so often to make sure everyone as a turn on the front, etc, etc...

We do have a Just for Fun group on the first Saturday of every month where we take all comers out regardless of speed or ability (we will, of course, tailor the ride to suit) but as that is at most 13mph average, I shouldn't think you need worry :)

We are always happy to help riders to get the best out of their riding with the club :D

Thanks for that, I was looking at a more direct route rather than diverting up through Wales, but I'll be looking at that route next year. Just got to fit it in.
Cheers.
