Paul, as my old Mum used to say, "if you haven't got anything useful to say, don't say anything!" Sadly, this advice is too late to stop you sounding like a complete prat but may help you in future!
For anyone who is interested in expressing a real interest in this thread with a view to coming out in a week or so please reply.

Steady on - that's bit harsh...

I have no wish to offend (tho have done and doubtless will do in the future  ). There's plenty of room on this forum for a bit of a laugh. That's one of the vital pieces of the jigsaw. Yes humour is not to everyone's taste but this reaction feels a bit personal and OTT to me - and therefore perhaps not suitable for open forum?? We are the agreeables are we not.....

I'm off to keelhaul meself

Perhaps in hindsight a bit harsh, I apologise if any offence taken. This was a serious subject though and it seemed sad that it was highjacked by an attempt to patronise someone who is not as 'hard' a rider as some others. We all know where we are in the pecking order and just because someone uses a train does not mean they are any less of a cyclist or should be made to feel ashamed if they do so.

:!: Nobody thinks of anybody being a lesser of a cyclist on here, I always drop comments in most threads and 'some' of them are even serious, but not alot, I started at the bottom of the food chain in this club early this year and have had NOTHING but full support from everyone. People are free to add comments whenever and wherever, Mr PVT (the gent) or any of the the others come to think of it do not have a bad bone in their bodys. It is a light hearted forum full of stars and always helpful to the end. Getting on ones high horse on here is not an option unless you call Amy...MRS

I've had my say. sorry to butt in. I hope it came out right.
I would be banned on here if people took offence to the odd comment  .

I think I should step in here and bring the thread back to its original line.

The whole idea is to encourage those less able than, say, Paul Tunnel, to come out on relatively easy-paced rides to different places and on different roads than just the club run to Charlwood every Saturday morning. It would be nice to have it so that on the day you decide to you can get an all day pass  there is nearly always an option to try a different route - maybe even you come forward and take other riders on your favourite route?

So please, get thinking about where you like or would like to go and encourage others to come along. I hope to do my Balcombe ride again next week - if I get the same weather as I had last time, it'll be gorgeous!

And yes, Mark, don't call me MRS :x

I'm doing the Reigate sportive on Sunday 6th so probably only go for a short ride Saturday - so no Balcombe ride  . What about doing it on the 12th, Amy?

Cheers

PS

(I took Paul's comment as a wind up - if I thought for one minute he was trying to patronise me I'd have punched him on the nose - or let his tyres down - or something! )

Unfortunately, I'm away the 12th and 19th, getting some strength training in with my touring bike and panniers in the Scottish highlands of Perthshire :D And, it's looking like I might be constrained to get home by the afternoon as Mum would like to visit me and see my new bike (honest).

So, how about a different route to Charlwood, starting by going up over Farthing Down and dropping into Charlwood via Bletchingly, Outwood and Salfords. It means doing the usual club route in reverse from where Lonesome Lane turns into the road between Meath Green and Reigate - so I thought we could continue with the route reversal and head out via Russ Hill all the way back to Coulsdon or go with the Box Hill lot - your choice :D

Definitely up for the ride down - sounds good. :D usual time at CSS?? Want to keep something in my legs for Sunday so might just go for the shortest route back but also thought I might have a look at the Evans warehouse clearance sale. I'll play that bit by ear.

Try this for size. I used to do this a couple of years ago when I lived in Coulsdon, it is quite a nice route with a mixture of beautiful narrow lanes along with some faster sections. Takes in the dual carriageway to get you back to the Charlwood Cafe. The parts around the back of Ardingly are really good, am sure if you can follow the map you would enjoy it.

Have fun.

Cheers

Looks similar to my Balcombe route - and yes, lovely little lanes through Slaugham and round the Ardingly reservoir :D
