:D

More info later. For now....

Windy

No training for a month (except the ESCA 50 2 wks ago which damn nearly killed me)

Pushed hard when I had the wind at my back. 2.22.38 - a PB by 3 min 14 sec. An excellent showing from team ACC - nice one 8)

Oh yeah - and my ar5e hurts :( :(

[quote="Jim B"]That was 2 hours+ of Premier League gonad bashing.

[quote="Snoop"]Oh yeah - and my ar5e hurts

This was my debut 50 and my first ride over a 25 on the TT bike, so to try and avoid the above I raised the armrests on my tri-bars (swapped the spacers for the bigger ones) and slathered my assos in a ton of Assos chamois cream. Yeah, it worked 8) :D .

I decided to ride the first lap slightly easier and pick up on the second, this way I'd avoid over-cooking it big style in my first 50. I had Dominic 2 minutes behind me so expected to see him again soon, I did after about 6 miles  . Having looked through the times on the startsheet I thought I'd be in for a fairly lonely ride as there were some faster people ahead so catching wasn't looking likely, only ever seeing people as they came passed me as I had some fast ones behind too.

Yep that was pretty much it for the first lap with people slipping passed at intervals and me never seeing a soul in front  . I'd stuck a couple of schedules on my stem (Ian!), one wildly optimistic in case it was a perfect day and I found I'd borrowed George's legs (2hr10), the other what I hoped to do with a strong whiff of realism (2hr15).

My legs didn't feel very good to start with and I was aware I wasn't pushing that hard for the first 15 miles, I drifted off with the fairies for about 5 minutes on lap one too. So "wildly ambitious" was out the window, trouble was as I approached the 25 mile mark I checked my watch and was nearly 2 minutes off "hoped for/realistic". Took that first lap a bit too easy then  .

On the plus side I knew I wouldn't have to do the Tolgate leg on lap 2 and my legs were coming good. With only 25 left I schnarffed a gel and got stuck in to it. Really pushed hard on the second lap to try and make amends for my slack first lap and was now not just getting passed but catching some of the slower riders :D . Always good for the ego and helps push me on a bit.

Didn't have to do the Tolgate leg but discovered someone had dumped a headwind on the flat section there instead :? . Hey-ho it's better than going up that drag. Up and back from the final turn and really buried myself at the end as I'd been checking my watch and was back on schedule and really wanted to nudge just under it rather than a few seconds over.

Hurrah, made it 2:14:40. Back to the car and off the bike and hurrah again, I could walk fine and all was well :D :D :D . I bent down to undo my shoes and that hurt a bit, quads are a bit stiff but comparatively unscathed from 2+ hours in a TT tuck, spin to work tomorrow should loosen them up. Particularly pleased as a few others said they didn't think it was the easiest of days, the wind definitely picked up during the ride so would have been worse for the later starters .

ACC Massive (if I noted them down correctly)

Douglas Shaw = 2:22:38
Robert Royal-Evatt = 2:06:04
Tamar Collis = 2:17:43
Andrew Green = 2:14:40
Dominic Lowe = 2:02:01
Michael Ingram = 2:34:19 (including 19mins late start)
Jonathan Hemming = 2:10:24
George Brent = 2:01:57

I'm pretty certain Laurence Harding won with a ridiculously fast 1:45 something, can anyone confirm this and the time as I want to send off my 100 entry before it starts looking like a silly idea :) .

Oh, and a big thanks to Amy and Ivor for stepping up the plate, wearing a lovely yellow bib and pointing. It was fine racing but you looked a bit chilly on the first lap with some expert foot shuffling going on.

Well done all ACCers, traffic was hectic down Tooting Broadway I guess, or else the curry from last night lingered a bit longer than usual.

Assos chamois cream is great, a good handfull (ooooeeerrrr) just before the start of the "dragon" kept the assos free from problems. I really find it psychologically i8mportant to have someone just in front of me when i am TTing, i hate it when the guy in front is a DNS, my first 10 this year- in atrocious weather- had 2 dns, and the guy who went off after me won, and the guy after him (thighs- posts passim) thunder passed in about 4 mins.
Snoop- well done fella, get the butler to give the bentley a little more gas.
Dom and Yog close to the 2 hour mark, windy out there today.

Nice field of women and all set out on consecutive numbers instead of randomly stuck behind fast men (at least that's what it usually feels like). I was scratch woman (due to a fast result on a good course a couple of years ago) so got to overtake a few riders...which is a novelty for me this year.

Had hoped for a 2.15...but not too disappointed with 2.17. Miles off my pb but pretty much what I expected given my current abysmal lack of form...and 2 min better than the 50 I did up in Derbyshire a few weeks back.

Happy Birthday to Dom and congrats on debut vets race.

I had a DNS in front of me, not as bad in a 50 to a 10 though. It's just mental Ian, I mean "getting your head on" for the race. Took me about a year of regular TTing to get the hang of it, as my Dad had told me it would.

First time I was truely in the zone (in a 10) came as a revelation and I knocked about half a minute off my PB, then another half minute the following week as it coincided with learning to hurt myself. I find it much easier now and rarely drift off. The riders around me become less important as I'm not focussing on them, just what I'm doing but I still get the boost from sighting or catching them. I'm sure it'll all click soon and then the times will come tumbling down shoving you further up the seeding and a bit further away from Legs(Thighs) & Co. :D .

Having got to HQ an hour and a half before my start, how on earth did I end up starting 19 minutes late, you're all asking.

Well, I rolled up to the line as number 91 was being pushed off (I was 94), only to find I had a front-wheel puncture. Apologies to the starter proffered, it was back to HQ while I still had enough air to get me there. On the way, I realised I hadn't packed any spare tubes, but George was starting near the back of the field and was still warming up and might have one. Not George! "Here", he said, "borrow one of my Boras, front or rear?"

Fantastic, a chance to try out some new kit. Now, let's see how quick these babies go. Well, even without the 19 minutes added on for the late start, I was still 4 minutes off my best and 3 slower than my only other 50 this year. So, there you have it, in a test carried out by one person over two rides on different courses in completely different conditions, Neutrons are quicker than Boras. Save your money, I say  !

Seriously though, big thanks to the Smiling One for helping me get a ride (of sorts), well done to  on a good debut ride in difficult conditions and to Snoop on yet another pb.

Thanks Ad..!

....but if it's any consolation, I'm still unable to walk properly....!

Some big, painful lessons learnt from Sunday morning: i. use chamois cream, ii. wear two pairs of shorts, iii, buy a new saddle, iv. actually try riding the new bike before racing it, v. stay in bed.

That said, it was still strangely enjoyable....
