I'm up for this, although not sure yet if the family will be. Mrs I still comes out in a cold sweat at the mere mention of fish pie.

I'll try and be there for the 10.30 start this year, although I may be hard-pressed to make that and the Cowes Ferry break.

I've just got an e-mail from Red Funnel ferries urging me to 'Escape to the home of Red Squirrels and great holidays!'

Just a quickie - how frequent is the East Cowes chain ferry, I mean if one were to miss the break and hence have to wait? (I've heard it can happen). Also is a multi tool any use in fixing the break on the East Cowes CHAIN ferry, or does it use a different size chain?

Ferry is quite a grand term Tim. It's just like a reasonable sized platform that runs up and down said chain. The crossing must be all of a couple of hundred metres so for it to get over and back you have a really long wait of about 15-20mins. If you can fit a chain tool big enough to fix the links in your saddle bag then you won't enjoy any of the hills carrying it round with you .
