Oooops  In my rather feeble defence - it wasn't a direct quote from me - just a name I'd heard that wondrous isle from which ye hail referred to as  ......d'oh!

I'm up for this, although not sure yet if the family will be. Mrs I still comes out in a cold sweat at the mere mention of fish pie.

I'll try and be there for the 10.30 start this year, although I may be hard-pressed to make that and the Cowes Ferry break.

I've just got an e-mail from Red Funnel ferries urging me to 'Escape to the home of Red Squirrels and great holidays!' 8)

[quote]If we don't get enough riders for a variety of groups we'll have to ride to the pace of the slowest rider but last year everyone stayed in touch with strategically placed re-group stops. Apart that is from when some of the very, very slowest of riders missed the break and consequently the East Cowes chain ferry. I'm not sure if I mentioned that some riders missed the break and consequently the East Cowes chain ferry?

Just you wait Mr Williams

BTW
Mrs T has to work on Friday so will drive down early Sat.

Don't worry, as the sensible pace leader, I don't think we'll even be in contention - it's too nice a ride to rush round. Anyway, John Cochrane and I discovered that as cyclists you can cruise past all the waiting motorists and get to the head of the queue to go on as foot passengers!

Watchit Snoop, nothing could be further from the truth - it is a really nice place, fantastic scenery and relatively car free. Make sure you get a pass and come and try it.

Trust me

Just a quickie - how frequent is the East Cowes chain ferry, I mean if one were to miss the break and hence have to wait? (I've heard it can happen). Also is a multi tool any use in fixing the break on the East Cowes CHAIN ferry, or does it use a different size chain?

Ferry is quite a grand term Tim. It's just like a reasonable sized platform that runs up and down said chain. The crossing must be all of a couple of hundred metres so for it to get over and back you have a really long wait of about 15-20mins. If you can fit a chain tool big enough to fix the links in your saddle bag then you won't enjoy any of the hills carrying it round with you  .

It goes about every 15 mins - it's only a 100 yard crossing and I reckon that given sufficient momentum down the approach ramp you could actually ride across without the use of the ferry at all. Kind of like skiping a stone across a puddle. That's my theory anyway :D
