Also Monica & Mark marshalling - a very well marshalled corner at the top of Cooper's Hill, unlike at the bottom turn where NP were conspicuous by their absence.

Note to self: Get yer @rse into gear and do some training, 1:31 slower last night than in 2006.

Several things to learn from this,

If you think you may want to ride get your name on the start list. Thanks to Mr Green senior for getting me into a spare slot.

Turn up in good time feeling fresh, not after riding 20+ miles through London into a headwind.

Relax and focus pre ride, not hurriedly pinning on numbers, removing tool kit, emptying pockets

Arrive early for your allotted time, not running through the start Le mans style

Don't get lost, at least I was able to save Sue from riding to Crawley at the bottom turn

Get some tri bars

Go faster

and dont make jokes about getting a puncture others wise you will on the way home.

I did have fun though, good weather and good company, thanks to all the helpers and supporters.

It is a nice loop to ride round, horrible to try and race round though!
Beaten by PVT by 1 second
Thanks to organisers and marshals - I was a touch surprised to see the most important/dodgy turn abandoned Jon  .
Had Mr. Kennett as my minute man so asked him to be kind enough to wait until I was out of sight before he caught me  , got to the motorway bridge after the descent in the end. :D

That was half an hour of pure pain! But that's what it's meant to be. Thanks for that! Glad I vaguely knew the course when it came to the unmarshalled corner.

Would be interesting to mention who had TT apparatus - I know Chris Moores (27:28) was on a plain road bike. So were Simon H, Mike and myself (had my fast wheels though).

Have emailed you Jon & Paul as I think my time should be 28:15 like it showed last night, was about 10s behind Huw G my minute man at the finish who has a 29:08.

We tried to find the pub where we thought everyone had been afterwards (Crown) but it was spookily empty. Where did you go?

Hi,

Thanks to all the organisers/helpers/timekeepers etc.

Does anyone know if there is a central location for old TT results, would like to know what time I did last time (quicker I would imagine), I think it was 2005, I know we won that time, I don't suppose that happens very often on that course!

Does anyone have a map of the course, I think I went the right way, but tried three different routes last night, one in the car before, one during the race and one as a warm down after the race.

BTW, can someone buy the house at the finish, so we can all park there like we used to!

Sylvan was at least 10minutes behind me ... honest!

sadly (well for me, I think 10secs is about right)

Anyway, all very enjoyable :D

cheers, Huw

Also, I make the 6 fastest times 2h41'48 for NP and 2h48'34 for ACC, reducing their winning margin to a wafer-thin 6'46! :-)

Re the kit Sylv I’ve ridden that course…
Twice on a standard road bike - inter-club 2 yrs ago & SCCU 21 this year = 2 laps
Once on road bike with clip on tri-bars – last night as a kit test for the 100.

Personally I think I found the tri-bars quicker, I stayed in a bigger gear and rolled it round more on the downhill/flat/drag sections rather than turning a slightly smaller gear quicker as I probably would have done otherwise.

Being quite a tough Sporting course I don’t think they are as much of an advantage as you may automatically think as on the hills I was out the saddle and on the drops or hoods anyway.

It’ll also depend how used to them you are, and lets face it messrs Kennett, Brueton etc are going to go round rather quickly no matter what the equipment :D .

What a cruel and brutal course for a time trial! That grind at the start, and that wall just after the bottom turn...!

My lungs were bursting all the way and a couple of times on the return leg I almost felt like hurling - what a way to spoil a tongue out photo that would have been! I was sooo glad to see the finish.

Glad I did it though, and I'm pretty chuffed to have knocked over 20 seconds off my time from '06. Catching my minute man just before the finish was a bonus too 8)

[quote]Would be interesting to mention who had TT apparatus - I know Chris Moores (27:28) was on a plain road bike. So were Simon H, Mike and myself (had my fast wheels though).

This was obviously a course where an ordinary road bike as opposed to a TT machine was less of a disadvantage than on a traditional TT course. In fact, looking at Chris Moores's time it might not have been a disadvantage at all! George, of course, would have been fast even if he'd been on Granville's shop bike.

I looked at some of the TdF TTers yesterday and was impressed at how stable they looked even though they were powering probably close to 500w. In comparison it felt like I was wobbling all over the place last night. I tried wrapping my hands around the stem on the first downhill but quickly had to revert to grabbing the ergos due to the wind and twisty road, with as flat a back as possible. I also had to get out of the saddle when it felt like, as you say Andrew I could have stay seated with bar extensions.

Sylvain,

[quote]Have emailed you Jon & Paul as I think my time should be 28:15 like it showed last night, was about 10s behind Huw G my minute man at the finish who has a 29:08.

My apologies to everyone but especially to Huw:
I’ve checked all the split times (still saved on the stopwatch), and I have made a mistake in Huw’s time. It should have read 1:01:38, not 1:01:08, (actual time 29:38) hence Sylv was 6 seconds behind him on the road, although Sylv’s time is right at 1:01:44 (28:44). This does affect the overall placings from 17th Position onwards, but not the top 6 places for ACC, so no adjustments to the team results.

As Joyce said to me on the way home, you almost couldn’t hear yourself think, let alone each other speak towards the end! Still my mistake though, reading the top line of the stopwatch in the hurry to write it down and call it out in less than 6 seconds.

Any volunteers to be timekeeper for club events :?:

Fortunately this does not affect the results sheet very much, although again apologies to Huw as it is the worst way round for him to be told he was half a minute slower.
Revised overall placings:
17th Justin Lomas (Norwood ParagonCC) (not joint 17th with Huw)
18th Jon Masters (Redhill CC)
19th Huw Griffiths (Addiscombe CC)
All other places the same (unless I've made other mistakes!)

Thanks to Michelle for number spotting otherwise I think all the results would've been wrong!
