Running races

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Running races

Postby Maria David » Mon Sep 27, 2004 11:19 am

As part of my prep for Ballbuster I've got off my butt and entered a couple of running races :

October 3rd, from 10.30am Autumn Trail Challenge - Half marathon, 12k or 6k race through Ham Common and Richmond Park - some orienteering involved, though I was just hoping to cut out that hassle by just following everyone else. £5 in advance, £7 entry on the day
details : http://www.sloweb.org.uk

October 10th, 10am Dulwich Charity 10km - 3 laps round/through Dulwich Park - fast flat course - warm up for Croydon 10k which is the week after.
£7/£8 in advance, £10 on the day - early entry advised

It would be good to hook with some other Agreeables out there.

Will do another Half marathon at some point but haven't decided which one yet.

THE GRIZZLY - March 2005

As part of my campaign to nurse myself back to being a half decent runner and also in preparation for the London Marathon I shall be doing the Grizzly.

fyi it's an 18ish mile multi-terrain run in Devon that takes in road, grass, mud and shingle going through streets, woods, fields and a beach.
It's legendary run and a good day out - think Tough Guy but without the army obtacles/burning bales of hay but more than twice the distance - lovely !

Anyway, I'm just mentioning it because the entries are now available and the 1,000 odd places get snapped up very quickly. So if you're interested check out http://www.axevalleyrunners.org.uk

I'll be driving down so will have room in my car for anyone wanting a lift.

Tadworth and Watford

Postby Maria David » Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:39 pm

Ok - I've got my entry confirmation for the flora london marathon 2005 so I'd better start running.

As part of my preparation I will be doing the following races :

The Tadworth 10 - 2/1/05 @ Tattenham corner - undulating multiterrain 10mile race round the Epsom downs and race course.

Info on http://www.tadworth.org.uk/tadten.html

Watford Half marathon - 6/2/05 - 13miles through country lanes outside Watford - scenic and hilly. Popular race - this is predicted to fill up in the next couple of weeks.

Info on http://www.vtawh.supanet.com/~vtawh/wat ... indexF.htm

Go on, make a great new year's resolution and sign up !

See you,

Maria

Up Box Hill Again !

Postby Maria David » Tue Dec 07, 2004 2:08 pm

If you're getting ballbuster withdrawal symptoms there's a 7.5mile race at box hill on 22nd Jan - only 7.5 miles ? Well, thing is it does involve 1700ft of running uphill - why travel to Wales or the Yorkshire Dales for a fell race when you've got Box Hill !

Great little run - (I've done it a couple of times before) - fun atmosphere.
What goes up must come down - and there are some interesting descents.
And there's all that scenery to admire !

More details at http://www.sloweb.org.uk/events/20050122/index.htm
Limited to 180 runners.
