On my commute this morning I saw a couple in Dulwich commuting on a tandem, then on the Camberwell Road I passed 3 blokes going the other way on a trandem. What a great start to a Friday .

I quite often see a bloke on a triple riding through Kennington when I'm going home. It's an adult-child-child arrangement, but I only ever see him on it. I can't believe the kids fall off every day without him noticing.

They all had matching jerseys (didn't catch what they were other than red but had some kind of logo/slogan), think they were on their way to a promotional event somewhere.

Well, Wednesday in the rain, saw a woman in herne hill area with a child on the back, one on the front and shopping hanging off both sides of the handlebars. Sometims see a yellow me-you-two triple for adult and 2 children around brixton road, maybe the same one as Mike sees?

I sometimes see a mum around Putney/Wandsworth on a yellow triple taking her kids to school

I once noticed the mum facing a similar dilemma - of having lost the kids - so I did point it out to her

A bit of trivia for you ...

Apparently, and I might be wrong, one of The Goodies' trandems was built by Tommy Quick as in TJ Quick frame builder who was based in Forest Hill. I believe he was well known for his track bikes including track tandems. He lived in Kenley, so very local and may be known by some our club members.

The reason I know of him is that a rather ecentric friend of mine about 15 years ago was very keen to have a tandem mountain bike and back in those days I don't think you could buy them off the peg. So he commissioned Tommy to build the frame for him. After a while, he out grew the tandem, and for his next project he got Tommy to build him an MTB trandem frame. Accompanying my friend on a trip to make some adjustments to the frame, I met Tommy at his shop, and was treated to a guided tour of his workshop.

My friend, who now lives in Zurich still has his trandem MTB, and still rides it. I have had several rides on it, and it's a real head turner, especially with the Swiss. Along the flat with three fit cyclists (being careful not to snap the chain) it can get up to incredible speeds. It's not all that successful at single track riding, but the ecentricity of it makes it quite novel to ride.

A former colleague (this is going back some years, so the details are sketchy I'm afraid) once borrowed the real Goodies bike to do a charidee ride in Ethiopia.

It obviously did the trick, because all that country's problems are no more. Oh, hang on, that's not right ...
