Bec CC 10 - 12th July

Like the littlest hobo a number of us were Holmwood bound this afternoon, for the Bec 10 on a course we all know and love, well some seem to hate it but hey-ho.

Blustery day out there with a head wind, with a few cross(ish) gusts, all the way out and a faster run home but still seemed to be the odd blow from the side. I also got caught in a light shower for a couple of miles on the way back but it didn't really have any effect, not very hard and the wind stayed the same.

Bearing in mind the conditions, and nearly everyone having their times knocked back a bit accordingly, I was pretty happy with my ride. Felt I could have gone a bit quicker as I didn't push enough on the early drags, but a perfect run is a rare beast.

Strange old day. Can't complain about how I rode or the way I felt. Paced it perfectly and felt I was hammering on the way back only to be caught by no 62 on the last drag in the last 1.5 miles, (Terry assures me he used to be a 1st cat roadman). If it had been a calmer day I am sure I would have PB'd that's how good I felt Which has cheered me up somewhat as my legs felt like lead during the interclub on Tuesday.

I really enjoyed the ride, in fact it is the first TT I can say I have really enjoyed since the Charlotteville 50. Seeing as that's why we do it I suppose I can't say fairer than that.

Hope it gets better soon Snoop, is this still from your gardening exploits? Hopefully your fitness and good form won't go too far, should be okay if you're not off the bike too long. Still got a couple of weeks so fingers crossed, and a little rest might mean you come back nice and fresh .

I thought that went OK, considering it was looking fairly dismal weather-wise earlier in the day.

Just as I was lining up at the start line Rob R-E returned and gave me the lowdown on the weather conditions - not bad going out and a tailwind after the turn. This was the first time I've ridden the course since that resurfacing work has been done, I thought resurfacing was meant to be an improvement. Pah!

I had a "zero" seeded number pinned on my bum, so was just hoping not to embarass myself too badly. Anyway, my minute man didn't turn up, so the first target was none other than British Cycling head honcho Peter King, 2 minutes ahead. It started raining on me about halfway to the turn from the 1st roundabout, and I could see PK ahead in the distance. At the turn I was unlucky to get baulked by a car joining from the left then going round the turn. Caught PK about a mile after the turn and made sure I was looking smooth as I went past, just in case he was talent spotting for Beijing. At the roundabout on the way back I could see 2 cars stopped ahead of me, but managed to overtake and take the fast line through without getting delayed.

Finished with burning lungs, and was quite pleased with a short 23 on the day.
