SERRL Brenchley (2,3,4) - 13th July

DNF.

If you've not had the pleasure of Brenchley, there's a 75m climb to ride each lap. Nice. I've not ridden a SERRL race since the beginning of May, and the pace seems to be significanlty higher. Kept losing touch by a few metres by the top of the climb, then spending half of the rest of the lap playing catch up. Lost the peleton properly with 4 to go, chased for a lap, then found myself in no-man's-land with 3 to go, so climbed off. No excuses, simply wasn't strong enough.

Well done Keith I bet the race was fully booked, I wanted to come down and try for an entry on the line but thought there would be too mny reserves

I rode this circuit earlier in the year in the 1,2,3 race, your right, you gotta be strong for that climb as there,s no place to hide.

Nice day for it, I wonder how there getting on riding to Hastings and back :P

mmm interesting Keith. Do you think race positioning or tired legs had something to do with it?'

Its a tough circuit. I had the pleasure of being dropped there with 2 to go in the 123 race earlier in the season. George got a good placing I seem to remember. Did they do KOM or anything now they have the chips?

Cheers

Neither I'd suggest. Always moved forward before the bottom of the hill to try to minimise loss (can always try to get further forward in future), and yesterday was the first real riding I'd done since La Marmotte (and then I sat-in more than normal). It was simply a lack of strength and speed on the hill.

Not yet, think it's only the 2nd or 3rd time they've used the chips. Reckon some primes and KoM will happen next year though.

By the way, the hill they used was different to last time (apparently).

Oh dear, I think I know the hill, I have done that one before as well and that is steeper than the other one, was it on a quite narrow road just after a tight right hander?

Cheers

I did that one 2 years ago and got dropped the 2nd time up it, a bunch of light pesky juniors from in-gear were ripping it up at the front. Don't these kids have playstations and the like, they should be standing on street corners smoking cigarettes and drinking cider, thats what kids did when I was growing up.

Cheers

Was a tough race yesterday. After my Chertsey exploits on Saturday I was really only a passenger. But with team mate John Sadler eventually in the break I had enough excuses to sit in!

Really had to fight for position for the first few laps though until the selections were made each time up that hill.

I felt ok, just a bit under par after a hard race the day before. An annonymous 17th place meant it was the first time I've not scored a point racing in a few weeks 8)

105 points now this year, but I'll stop if I get to close to 1st cat  Theres not a great deal of point in me going up this year, will create needless travelling next season. And besides, I want more victories to my name first...

I was visting my aunt who lives in the area and I came across the race.
The hill was more like 1km long rather than 75m :)

I watched a couple of laps and Adam looked very strong riding up at the front on the hill. Not bad for a sprinter. I also saw Keith struggle a bit on the hill but it looked awfully tough.
I think there were a lot of DNF's with people getting dropped on that hill.
